RACIST!!!!I had high expectations when I visited this hotel, but my experience was overshadowed by behavior that felt unwelcoming and discriminatory.

Upon arrival, I needed to use the restroom and politely asked for directions. Instead of providing assistance, I was asked, “Are you staying at the hotel?” in a tone that felt unnecessary and accusatory.

Later, during our meal, the sommelier’s Ciro’s behavior left much to be desired. Unlike other tables, where he took time to explain and introduce the wines, he barely acknowledged us. When I inquired about the wine we had ordered, his curt response was, “I thought the waiter already told you,” accompanied by an eye roll. This dismissive attitude was in stark contrast to the attentive service provided to other diners.

For an establishment of this caliber, I expected inclusive, professional, and respectful treatment. Instead, I left feeling deeply disappointed and unwelcome. A Michelin rating should not only reflect the quality of food but also the quality of service and respect for all guests.

Our experience at Akelarre was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and outstanding professionalism. The room offered a breathtaking view of the ocean, with comfort and elegance that exceeded all our expectations.

The dinner at Bistrot Oteiza was the cherry on top. Each dish was a true tribute to Basque cuisine, combining authenticity and creativity. The impeccable service and the welcoming atmosphere of the bistro made this evening truly memorable.

In general, this is an excellent hotel. Service is exemplary and the views are stunning. It is a given that a five star hotel that charges this much should be really good and it is. Surprisingly, it is let down by the quality of the food in the attached restaurant (Ostezia) and room service. Given this hotel is built around a three michelin star restaurant, this is a bit of a shock. You'll have a great time here, but I wouldn't necessarily come back.

The architecture is great and so is the location but the food and service when we were there (start of winter so not peak season) was much worse than other much less expensive places we stayed.
