Quite empty but atmosphere was friendly. Staff were efficient and attentive. Food was very nice. My son didn’t love his kids steak, he said it was tough, but my savoury pancake was delicious and my husband loved the beef bourguignon.   The sweet crepe was yummy. We spent about £100 with a glass of wine each.

Disappointing Kitchen Performance – 4.9 Rating Not Justified

The restaurant’s current 4.9 rating is far too generous and doesn’t reflect my experience. The beef tartare was gray and tasted off, and while the staff was friendly, their handling of the issue was inadequate.

The deer loin was equally disappointing: one piece was burned and overcooked, while the other was inconsistently prepared—raw in the center and overdone on the outside.

Dessert continued the trend of disappointment: dry crepes with apple sauce—a lackluster and uninspired dish, poorly executed.

Despite friendly service, the kitchen’s performance and creativity fell far short of expectations. Wouldn't recommend going!

We had a great time at Matsalen. We had their signature Galettes, among other things. Lovely staff, great food, highly recommend.
