Kirk Vinbar – A Hidden Gem That Might Just Be Skellefteå’s Best

I wandered into Kirk Vinbar simply because it was close to my hotel on the main strip—and ended up coming back two nights in a row. Monday and Tuesday evenings around 7pm, and both times? Quiet, relaxed, and absolutely delightful.

Now, this might spark debate, but I’ll say it anyway: Kirk Vinbar might be the best restaurant in Skellefteå. The menu is creative and seasonal, built entirely around local ingredients, and I’m told it changes often—which makes me want to keep coming back. The drinks list? Curated to perfection, with a real sense of intention behind every pour.

I tried the mushroom taco (earthy and packed with flavour), grilled lamb with black cabbage (a dream), and a beautifully executed Skagen. Each dish was unique, local-ish, and clearly crafted with care.

I had the pleasure of being served by Erik one evening and then Oskar and Alva the next. Since I was the only guest on both nights, they took the time to walk me through the menu, share insights about the area, and give me the inside scoop on local life. Honestly, they were a huge part of what made the experience so memorable.

Huge thanks to the whole team for the hospitality and for pointing me toward the best local spots in town.

I dined at this place last Friday evening, and my friend booked a table for us. It is highly recommended to book a table, especially on a Friday evening or weekend, as the place was full. We were seated at a table for two. The vibe of the restaurant was nice and cozy. Despite the rain, it was possible to choose outdoor seating, and they offered blankets to keep warm if you were wearing shorts or skirts. There were small coat hangers on the wall near our seats for our jackets, as well as a floor coat hanger near the entrance on the right, which I noticed later.

The dinner was courtesy of my friend, but I didn't hold back. I ordered the rib-eye, the most expensive dish on the menu, and it was excellent. The meat was tender and flavorful, and the presentation was impressive. The side of fries was also good, with big, crunchy cuts topped with shredded cheese and parsley.

For dessert, I chose the Swedish sockerkaka. The combination of the cake, lemon curd, and fresh strawberries was delightful.

Inside the restaurant, there was a nice-looking wine cellar, and they had a separate menu for alcoholic drinks, which you should check out. I didn't order any drinks as I wasn't in the mood.

Our booking time was for two hours (19:15-21:15 in my case), but we were able to stay until 22:00 before leaving. It seemed that each waiter was responsible for specific tables. I expected not to have to leave my seat to order dessert or for my friend to pay, but it was quite busy when we arrived. As a result, the timing for our main course and dessert orders was a bit off. I had to go to the bar to order dessert, as it would have taken too long for a waiter to attend to our table.

I didn't use the restroom, but it seemed they only had one, as I saw one person come and go after another.

Scallop starter was tiny, no bigger than a thumbnail.
Garlic bread was really good.
Sirloin steak was inedible, just a pile of fat and gristle , amazing and shameful that the chef cooked this and served it, absolutely the worst meat I have ever attempted to eat. The vegetables were good so I didn't completely starve.
The service was very amateurish. I asked for my fizzy drink to be served with the main course.
It was served 30 seconds later, I mentioned the mistake and I was told it was on the house and another would be served with the meal when it arrived.
When I mentioned the steak was not great and pointed to the plate full of gristle and fat, there was no acknowledgement, the waiter just walked away.
Then to make this one of the worst dining experiences in skellefteå, the staff overcharged by 190 kronor and it was just by luck that I noticed it. A refund was given.
This restaurant gets some things right but it's failure to serve an edible main course and some customer service awkwardness means it only deserves one star.

Very nice. We had some oysters, the carpaccio, arctic char, and entercote. As well as different selections of wine. Everything was great. 👌🏻

The Kork never disappoints!
The queen scallops were simply delicious. The steaks cooked to perfection with an artistic presentation. I'm coming back again for sure for their halibut dish.
