The grilled planted steak blew my mind - the closest I have ever tasted to the real thing. (They even give you a steak knife, and cutting it does also give out some "juice"). The buffet is super popular. Nice ambience, food and really true to it's reputation as the worlds oldest vegetarian restaurant!

I've been to Hiltl (Haus Hiltl in Zurich City) the first time about 30 years ago at a very young age with my mom, and visited this place now and then ever since, with family and friends and as well now with my own kids. You can choose from a variety of vegetarian dishes from the buffet and the menu card. I love the fresh tee and fruit drinks, and the selection of desserts. Over the years, the food was always top quality and inspires you to create your own vegetarian dishes at home, complemented with top cooking classes that provide some deeper insights on nutrition topics. I have to say though, that I have only ordered once or twice from the menu card, as I enjoy it very much to go the buffet to choose a variety of warm and cold vegetarian food. It is a very expensive place to eat. Therefore, I would love to have more of such restaurants at an affordable price. It is our world that we live in that good, healthy food costs a fortune. And it doesn't matter if you buy the food and prepare and cook it at your home (use water, energy etc.), which is also very pricy and takes time, or go to such a place like Hiltl. In my view, the government should understand that ALL people should be eligible and enabled to enter the healthy food market in whatever way, less or no added sugar, alternatives to massive meat production, sustainable local food etc.

It was an incredible experience to dine at the world's oldest vegetarian restaurant. What was more fascinating was this concept where you pay by the weight of the food on the plate. And there are so many options to choose from as well that often there is a lot more food on the plate than you would partake. We indulged in formal dining as well as the weight concept on two separate occasions. Not only there is a plethora of choices but the taste of the food is equally good. Definitely worth the money and time.

It was such an awesome experience to sit and eat in the World's 1st Vegetarian Restaurant 💕
Food was excellent, and the Ambience was simply Amazing.
Each meal tasted so good.
Highly recommend the Vegetarian Burger and the Pesto Pasta.
Had a great Date Night with my Husband here. Such a beautiful romantic setting.

I found Hiltl while searching for the best local spots in Zurich. Even though it’s fully vegetarian, I decided to give it a try – and I’m so glad I did! The atmosphere was lively, packed with people enjoying their meals. I tried the palak paneer with naan, Thai papaya salad, and topped it off with tiramisu. Every dish was full of flavor and really delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great veg options!
