We really enjoyed our experience dining here. We both loved our meals—we each had the table d’hôte. Everything tasted like it was prepared with love, not too salty, full of home cooked flavours. It was a real treat to have a traditional Québécoise meal in a historical building. Nice art. Our server, Sam, and his colleague were friendly, attentive and charming. This was the whole experience you could hope for when visiting a place and wanting to discover and learn through food.

We had the pleasure of dining at Aux Anciens Canadiens during our vacation in Quebec City, and it was a memorable experience that combined history, atmosphere, and traditional Quebecois cuisine. The restaurant is located on the main floor of a historic house, with low ceilings and thick stone walls that give it a warm, rustic charm reminiscent of the homes in Little Women. A central fireplace serves as a stunning centerpiece, adding to the cozy and intimate ambiance. The upper floor houses private dining areas and bathrooms, making it a versatile space for both intimate and larger gatherings. Its location in the heart of Old Quebec makes it a convenient and inviting stop for an authentic culinary experience.

We started with a selection of appetizers: the Fondue Parmesan au Bison Fumé et aux Fromages d’Ici was excellent — rich, smoky, and perfectly melted. The Coquille de Crevettes Géantes et Pétoncles au Gratin was good, though not as memorable as the fondue. The shrimp and lobster bisque was a bit underwhelming — not bad, but lacking the depth of flavor we were expecting.

For the main courses, we tried Les Trois Mignons — a trio of perfectly cooked and flavorful cuts of meat, which was the highlight of the meal. The Filet de Boeuf Wellington was well-executed and interesting, with a delicate pastry and tender meat. The Bourguignon de Bison was rich and hearty, showcasing the deep flavors of bison beautifully.

Dessert did not disappoint. The Tarte au Sirop d’Érable was a must-try for anyone who loves sweet treats — rich, sticky, and delicious. The Crème Brûlée à l’Érable was perfectly creamy with a crisp caramelized top. The Pain Perdu à l’Érable was another standout — perfectly cooked and balanced in sweetness.

The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere was warm and relaxed, with low noise levels that made it easy to enjoy conversation. However, while the historical charm is part of the restaurant’s appeal, the décor and furnishings could benefit from an update to balance the old-world feel with modern comfort.

Overall, Aux Anciens Canadiens offers a charming and authentic Quebecois experience with a few standout dishes and a cozy atmosphere. It’s a place that leans into its historical roots while delivering a solid, if slightly uneven, culinary experience.

Early Dec2024  When in the historical city of Quebec one would also need to try out its historical and local cuisine set within one of its equally historical structures.

The food consists of French Canadian fare with some mains dealing with game dishes while others lean to French classical type of offerings.

The servers will be able to assist you in any inquiries if needed.

The place is much like a homestead or village house full of visual displays, with the feel of part inn and part museum.  Expect cozy bit tight surroundings.

Truly an experience in itself.

Located in downtown Quebec City, this restaurant features traditional québécois cuisine. The house dates back to 1675, and is now a historical landmark. The exterior features a very traditional French house that is painted red and white. The interior walls are decorated with carved art pieces, and the ceiling lights shine through stained glass windows.

The lunch special is a very good deal, which comes with a drink, bread and butter, a starter, a main dish, and a dessert. With extra fees you have the choice of upgraded dishes.

The Lac St Jean Meat Pie is a unique dish made with bison, deer, elk, beef and pork filling. If you’re down for the culinary adventure, this dish would be the perfect choice during cold days. The crust is buttery, flaky, and pairs well with the meat filling. The tomato fruit sauce on the side is homemade, and you can taste the tomato chunks along with its sweet and sour flavour profile.

The maple syrup pie is another one of their signature desserts. The filling is very sweet, but the cream on top is unsweetened, which tones down the sweetness of the syrup. However, if you feel like something fruity, they also have other options such as a blueberry pie.

Overall, a nice dinning experience, and the place was not super busy during a Friday late afternoon.

Sedan Les Grands Voiliers sommaren 1984 har vi ätit middag på denna unika restaurang minst 20 gånger! Platsen, den vackra platsen inuti - utanför, värmen och kvaliteten på service från varje medlem i teamet, den otroliga menyn och naturligtvis de läckra rätterna... gör denna plats en oundviklig upplevelse och ett oundvikligt stopp i vår resa i Gamla Quebec.

Gick för den traditionella Gastronomique Quebecoise Food Den bästa franska löksoppan i Quebec City fick vi veta av server smaken var spektakulär min första franska löksoppa som var buljong bara ingen lök? ? ? ? Osttoppingen var kall men ganska bra Förrätterna med båda valen var stor god smak och väl förberedd El Dente Grönsakerna var kalla och hade massor av knapriga Många Quebec restauranger tillåter dig att ta med ditt eget vin inte säker på om det är ett alternativ här men OMG vinutbudet är så dåligt Efterrätten Creme Brule fyllning var ganska spektakulär men de kämpade för att avsluta toppingen Why. .

Som lokalbo hade jag höga förväntningar på tourtiere, särskilt med tanke på prislappen. Jag är glad att kunna säga att deras tourtiere är fantastisk. Generös portion, rotfrukter vid sidan av och fruktketchup.

Vi har verkligen haft vårt besök i Aux Anciens Canadiens från början till slut. Cool gammal (1675! ) byggnad med traditionell Quebec komfort mat. Vår grupp hade nötkött bourguignon och Quebec köttpaj och de var båda fantastiska smakrika rejäla rätter. Men kanske det bästa var lönnpajen. Liknar pekannötspaj men bättre, inte att missa. Sammantaget bra besök med god mat och bra service i en unik miljö, rekommenderar starkt.

Åkte hit på vår 46:e bröllopsdag. Vi var på smekmånad här 1979! Servicen var långsam Grönsaker inte färska. Gröna bönor uppenbarligen frysta, ett spindellikt sparrisspjut, strimlad rova och en morot (Inte mina favoritgrönsaker) Escargot var utsökt Beef Wellington var tuff Blåbärspaj såg massproducerad ut med konserverad fyllning som var väldigt intetsägande Atmosfär och inredning av gamla huset är väl representerade för eran

Denna härliga restaurang ligger inne i en historisk byggnad och erbjuder en meny till fast pris. Jag åt den utmärkta laxen i citronsås och min dotter åt gaffelmör apelsinanka. Båda måltiderna var läckra, väl presenterade och kom med ett glas vin plus dessert. Jag åt blåbärspaj och min dotter åt lönnsockerpaj. Skorporna var supermöra och flagiga. Våra måltider kom också med en liten skål soppa. $ 40 per person är ganska rimligt och portionerna är generösa. Denna härliga restaurang är i nivå och Servicen var högsta nivå.

Detta är en tuff en! Vacker liten gammal bondgård mitt i gamla Quebec City, charmiga inuti, trevliga människor, men affärsplanen visar en annan sida, mer snabbmat och allt pre - beredda och återuppvärmda. Menyn har en del intressanta saker, men dryckesmenyn är en annan historia. Detta är Les Anciens Canadiens men det enda mousserande vinet vid glaset är ungerska, inte särskilt Franska, och ingen Chardonnay. En Franska Red som låter trevligt, Rothschild, Bordeaux, men väldigt ung. Även vid flaskan bara en Champagne. vi hade våra förrätter och huvudrätt och vi hade bara varit där 30 minuter. Så, trevligt ställe/människor, men för resten, en besvikelse.

Vår servitör Stephane brydde sig inte om att servera oss. Han frågade om vi ville ha bröd, vi sa ja, och såg aldrig bröd eller servitören på länge. När han kom med vårt vita vin tog han med sig två glas is och ett vitt vin i en kylbox utan is. Han kom inte tillbaka på länge. Vi la isen i ishinken och hällde upp vårt eget vin. Våra huvudmåltider kom. Min mans nötkött Wellington var ok. Min lax insvept i bakverk var oätlig. Kanske en bit lax viftades över den. Kyparen vill aldrig titta till oss. Plus, detta var ett pris fast meny (jag skulle rekommendera att du undviker det) . Priset inuti var inte samma som det bokförda priset. Vi fick inte sidorna. Återigen, ingen servitör. Vi betalade också för två glas vin i det fasta priset. Vi var tvungna att be om det. Om du beställde à la cate, priserna var skandalösa, så fast pris var den enda vägen att gå. Vänner rekommenderade denna plats, så vi ville gilla det. För ungefär 250 dollar var den här måltiden en katastrof. Gå någon annanstans, eller be om en annan servitör.

Vi åt här 1996 för lunch och var glada att återbesöka. Servitrisen på den tiden förklarade vilka alternativ på menyn som var traditionell Quebec mat. En viktig del av att resa är att njuta av vad lokalbefolkningen äter och dricker, denna gång var vi där för middag. Vi åt ärtsoppa, sallad, mormors köttpaj, köttbullar, ett smakprov på de traditionella bönorna och lönnsirapspaj. Menyn är mycket liknande för lunch och middag, lunch är mer ekonomiskt.

Söt, om trångt, byggnad. Servicen var varierande och maten var tung och inte särskilt bra. Men de gör en bra poutine. Dessert fruktpaj var ok, men blöt skorpa.

Mysig restaurang, mycket utsökt mat, mycket rimligt pris och särskilt utmärkt och vänlig kundservice. Rekommenderar starkt.

Utmärkt mat och utmärkt urval av fransk kanadensiska alternativ Denna restaurang ligger i den äldsta byggnaden i Quebec. Det är mycket populärt och ibland svårt att komma in

Detta är en mycket mysig och gammal plats med en trevlig atmosfär. Maten matchar dock inte. 3-rätters måltiden ser bra ut på papper, men vi blev besvikna. Cretons kom med ett kallt, tillslutet mystiskt kött, även om Poutine var välsmakande (och blöt) . Farmors möte paj var ok, men inte restaurang kvalitet. Ank confitsalladen bestod av enorma bitar sallad (rotfastsatt) och smaklösa bitar av anka som kastades ovanpå. Sirapsdressingen var för söt. Efterrätten - blåbärspajen - var blöt. Lönnsirapspajen var väldigt god (ungefär som en sockerpaj). Servern var uppmärksam och trevlig.

Vi hade planerat en tidig middag med reservationer för sen eftermiddag efter en turné och Old Quebec utforska. Men vädret var hemskt och gick direkt efter vår tur eftersom det slutade en kort promenad från restaurangen. Byggnaden var faktiskt den sista höjdpunkten som påpekades av vår guide innan turen avslutades. Restaurangen ligger i den äldsta bevarade bostaden i Québec. Värdinnan satt oss omedelbart och vi hade nästan personlig service för de flesta av våra måltider. vår server, Sam, var utmärkt.
