I usually look at the trains outside, first time going inside in years but I really enjoyed it, there is a LOT to look at and learn, lots of really interesting history and artifacts - I got enjoyment seeing CN4803 getting some restoration work. Also the small HO scale layout you could use was fun too! (although I think adding a switch of two would be extra fun 😄)

I love that the roundhouse is still working. I was able to see how it was working before and how it moves the locomotive. This is great for kids and even adult. And it is so fascinating to see different locomotives. It's also close to other attraction so when you're visiting downtown, this is a worth stopping by.

This small museum when I first found it felt like a hidden treasure in Toronto, where it told about the local railway history in the city and I got to see the collection of rolling stock they have at the Roundhouse Park.
Plus, you can book one of the tours they have during the day and we got a closer look at the big steam locomotive they have.
Also, don't be a dummy and climb on the roof of the train for no good reason like that shirtless man or you will be taken care of by the police.

It’s only a small museum without many displays. The entrance fee is a bit much for non rail enthusiasts. I didn’t mind as I like to support rail preservation anywhere I go.

There's plenty to see and look at outside the roundhouse at this Railroad museum. Run by local enthusiasts, it's got a small area inside one of the stalls that is the actual museum. This has a small entry fee. It houses historic artefacts, pictures, equipment and stories about the railroad companies that used the roundhouse. The locos outside are accessible for photos, except the large steam loco.
Worth a visit for any Railroad enthusiast.

It's across the way from the CN Tower and is definitely worth a stop. These babies are beautiful works of machinery restored to their grandeur of their heyday. One cannot not stop, stare and snap. It's free and if you need to see more, there is an indoor museum that's not free.

Nothing and I mean nothing to see at this "museum". 14 dollars for a "museum" you can view from the front door. Photos, some old china, and some poorly researched and displayed wall displays. Restorations? Another joke. This place is not capable of handling and or "restoring" railroad equipment. The environment? A bunch of yuppie breweries and restaurants in a historic railroad building. The hotel room I booked is larger than this "museum". Outdoors? A poor "collection" of locomotives and rolling stock. The only attraction at this "museum" is the CN 6213, which I'm told has zero public access beyond the chain fence erected 10-15 feet around it. No way to inspect the locomotive close up or even take a half decent photo. So if you are a railfan, railroader, or someone with more than a passing interest in trains, locomotives, or railroading history, this is NOT the place for you. The two girls who I guess act as museum "staff" are worthless. I should've read these reviews before making the drive, paying for parking, and walking to this "museum". The city of Toronto and Canada in general should be embarrassed calling this 10' x 8.5' room a "railroad museum". Would NOT recommend.

I did not have enough energy after walking all through the waterfront today and then two beers at the Steam Whistle to give the Toronto Railway Museum the respect that it deserved. But if the outside is anything like the inside, then I really missed out. The front of the Museum is a roundtable. These are the devices that spin trains and turn them around. And five or six locomotives and cars that you can climb on, climb over and take pictures with. Very cool. I need to get back to Toronto and when I do, I will definitely visit the Museum properly. I always check out the outdoor exhibit area whenever I am in the area: attending beer festivals, visiting Aquarium or attending events at Toronto Convention Centre. Looking at and taking photos of the old trains are always fun, especially if you are a railway enthusiast. There are also an exhibit area indoors but though opens year round, the hours are seasonal with an admission fee. A good idea to check their opening times before heading over if you really want to get inside the trains as they are fenced off when the museum is closed.

Visited recently on my weekend in Toronto, it's right next to the Aquarium. The museum itself is small, but incredibly interesting and informative, outside are the trains, cars, and cabooses. There is also a restaurant, and brewery on the grounds. We had a ball taking pictures, that alone was worth the small price of admission. I think there was a small kid train giving rides, but not sure. Will definitely be back on my next trip to Toronto. If you like trains, check this place out, the history, and train cars are fascinating, and admission price is incredibly reasonable.

the sheer size of this museum is awesome and very large, when you take into account the rail yard and trains that are outside but are fenced off. as a part of the roundhouse for the actual museum part I was extremely disappointed to see the size of the museum from the inside. I came for the go train exhibit and wasn't satisfied with what this location had to offer, a couple of display cases and that's it? little did I know that the other bays were actually in use for refurbishing other trains for either use or display. the biggest let down was the promise that the go train on exhibit would be open at noon and be available for exploring, after 90 minutes of killing time I went to go ask the lady at the desk what was going on and she explained to me that the "noon" time was flexible...not impressed. this is quite a walk from union station, and the indoor part is not worth the money asking.

This little train museum is a super fun and free activity in Downtown TO. We happened on it by accident after leaving the Skydome, but my son thoroughly enjoyed himself. We spent quite a bit of time here, the trains were sort of open to be explored. He climbed on everything and got my uncle to follow him around, it was pretty funny. I was impressed with the size of it for a free display amidst so many expensive attractions. It was definitely refreshing to see something like this among so many commercialized ventures. And it was cute to see so many happy children. I don't post pics of my son's face, so I had a hard time finding photos on my camera roll where he wasn't bombing in every shot :-)

Lots of old trains to look at and a small museum. $5 for adults $3 for kids and they had a mini train ride. Interesting but would have like to see more content. Nice and close to the CN tower, Ripley's aquarium, rogers centre and a bunch more attractions. We had some time to kill, and it looked kind of interesting. I'm sure to a train officanado it would have been great lots of good thorough info on plaques, notes, etc, but not my interest.

Tucked away inside the entertainment district of Toronto, this museum showcases the older side of the city. Back when Canadian National used downtown Toronto as a switching station and repair depot for their trains. This museum is a hidden gem that becomes even cooler when you realize it has been deconstructed and put back together brick by brick to allow an underground parking garage to provide a new foundation. The outdoor trains and switching tracks are cool by themselves, but the indoor area tucked away between steam whistle brewery offers a great deal of history and an interactive train simulator that is fun for all ages. A good stop for anyone in the area looking to spend 30 minutes learning something new.

A lovely addition to the historical Roundhouse, located just south of the Skydome, the Toronto Railway Heritage Centre opened to the public in late May 2010. It is open free to the public, but donations are accepted and encouraged. The TRHC itself has several trains set out in the open and within the Roundhouse. You can wander in and check out an old caboose or even play on a train simulator. Sit in the driver's seat and steer the train while watching a computer screen as you imagine yourself in downtown Toronto of the 1950s. Go early in the day to avoid line-ups. Note that these trains are NOT wheelchair accessible. In the summer, a miniature train pulls a dozen people around on miniature tracks. Mostly geared towards children, rides are $3 for adults, and $2 for kids. Parking underground for the Metro Convention Centre is a bit pricey, but worth it for the photo ops and the handful of geocaches in this area - one which is actually physically attached to the Roundhouse itself. It's also very central and only a 10-minute walk from Harbourfront and Queen's Quay. A great place to pick up a little history lesson, and possible a beer at the Steamwhistle Brewery next door!
