Hard to say what was better: the service or the food. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and each dish was creative and delicious and fabulous. Best dinner we had in Mexico. If you haven’t been, I am jealous because you still have it to look forward to.

Gaba was phenomenal. We ordered all of our food at once and they came out one after the other at what felt like the perfect pace, giving us time to talk about the previous course and savor it before moving on to the next. I should also note they were very good about my partners Gluten Allergy. Our meal came to about $2,700 pesos including tip. We got 2 drinks (one for each of us) that were both delicious, Whiskey Sour, and Ginger Guava (delicious mocktail).
1. Grapes with Crème fraiche - don’t miss out on this really delicious pairing of flavors 10/10
2. Beet Fennel Sweet Potato Hazelnut - this is the only dish we weren’t super fans of (spoiler everything else was awesome). The beets themselves were great but that could only take the dish so far. The dish just needed more flavor from elsewhere 6/10
3. The Mussels - Wow, so delicious, best Mussels I’ve ever had, the bread that came with it was out of this world as well. I soaked the bread and finished all the sauce, no regrets 10/10
4. Grilled Oyster Mushrooms - Again, my goodness, so good. The texture and crunch was so great. 10/10
5. Catch of the day - It was catfish (I believe) with a fermented Jalapeño sauce. Perfectly cooked and absolutely phenomenal. The presentation was great as well 10/10
6. Nopal and Cucumber sorbet - This was very refreshing and very good 8.5/10

They kindly accommodated us without a reservation and sat us in an intimate corner table. Sadly, I only have limited photos of the food from that evening - but everything was delicious. We tried the chicken pate, grape salad, fish collar with salsa verde, and the pork. We would have tried dessert, but we couldn’t take another bite. Thank you for the wonderful service. They somehow picked up on the fact that my partner and I work in the food industry (probably how we critique food the entire time we consume it) and treated us to a little gift. A wonderful first romantic dinner in CDMX.

Had dinner last night at Gaba and really enjoyed my experience. It’s a quaint yet stylish restaurant in Condesa with a creative menu and very friendly staff. The food was excellent - specifically the grapes and the chicken liver mousse. I also had a beautiful cocktail and a really great glass of Mexican wine. Highly recommended, best meal I’ve had in Mexico City (moreso than Michelin-starred Rosetta).

I loved my meal at Gaba. The menu is interesting blend of international flavours with Mexican influences. It reminded me of something that I might encounter at a global bistro back home in London. Staff were very friendly and helpful in ordering. I tried the grape salad with creme fraiche, wagyu tartar and then the lamb neck, which came with consommé and warm tortillas for making your own tacos. Everything was delicious, and they also have good cocktails. My only complaint is that my server told me that the small plates are very small; but they were actually decently portioned so that I struggled to finish the main course after two small plates.
