Nestled in the lush greenery of Los Naranjos, Chiriquí Province, Panama, The Lost Waterfalls — also known as Las Tres Cascadas — offer an unforgettable outdoor escape for nature lovers and adventurous travelers alike. This spectacular hiking destination boasts a series of three breathtaking waterfalls, each surrounded by vibrant jungle life and pristine natural pools perfect for a refreshing swim. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a curious explorer, this trail showcases the best of Panama's highland rainforest beauty.
what to expect on the hike
The hike to The Lost Waterfalls is moderately challenging but rewarding, typically taking about two to three and a half hours depending on your pace and stops. You'll traverse well-marked trails that wind through dense rainforest, with some steep and rocky sections where ropes are provided for safety — so sturdy hiking boots with good grip are a must. The trail is shaded and cooler than nearby Boquete due to the elevation, making the hike more comfortable even on warm days.
Important note: the section between waterfalls two and three is especially slippery and steep, so take your time and be cautious.
swim in natural pools and spot wildlife
Two of the three waterfalls feature natural pools where you can take a dip in the cool, refreshing water — a perfect reward after hiking the trail. The water is cold but invigorating, and swimming here is a unique way to connect with Panama’s pristine rainforest environment. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife including colorful quetzals and various snake species, adding an exciting wildlife spotting element to your adventure.

A gorgeous hike where you get to experience three waterfalls. The hike is moderate/easy but short, roundtrip without extensive stops is about 1,5h but with time for pictures and swimming stops I would recommend 3h. The entrance fee to the hike is 10$ and a roundtrip taxi is about 25$, but totally worth it.
