We had the oysters, mulhwe, beef tartare, jjimdak bao, uni scallop toast & black cod. All the dishes were very flavourful and well thought out. The only thing that left us feeling neutral about was the mulhwe, it was just ok. Will definitely come back for the oysters, steak tartare & uni toast, they were flavourbombs! Great service, our server took his time explaining which dishes were his favourite :)

Fantastic uplifted Korean inspired restaurant. Very creative with their tapas. I can see how they can lift the original familiar Korean cuisine into something else

The tteokbokki was my main favourite. Followed by the truffle mushroom. Everything was delicious anyways! Our fave SF dinner

Bansang, located in Fillmore, is a contemporary Korean restaurant that stands out for its blend of flavors and modern approach. The menu is small, consisting of tapas that are perfect for sharing with friends. We tried most of the dishes, and the quality of the proteins and vegetables is impressive, making the dining experience quite special.

The service is friendly, which is appreciated given my experience at other Asian spots where service isn’t always great. While it’s not the best service I’ve encountered, they do make an effort to stay attentive to the table. The ambiance inside the restaurant is pleasant, with good lighting and a comfortable climate. The exterior could use a bit of upkeep, but it doesn’t significantly impact the overall experience.

They have a solid wine selection, and the prices are fair considering the quality and service provided. I’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

My girlfriend and I ordered 2 large tapas and 2 small tapas. The large tapas included: Galbi Ribeye & Miso Marinated Pork. Both dishes contained a fair amount of food for 2 people. The miso sauce for the pork was delicious and should be tried! The galbi ribeye was also quite good, although the dish itself was the priciest food option on the menu ($58). For the small tapas: we had Korean Steak Tartare & Charred Broccoli. The steak tartare was okay. The broccoli was a stellar dish and is highly recommended.

We did not wait long for our food. As soon as we finished the small tapas, our large tapas arrived. I appreciated this - I mean, who wants to wait an inordinate amount of time between dishes, right? Also, as soon as we were finished, the bill was presented to us - allowing us to pay and be on our way without having to waste time searching for a waiter. Also, we were celebrating a birthday and I appreciated that they brought out a small dessert and candle for us.

Ambience: 3/5
Nothing special here. Not too loud. Tastefully decorated, but again, nothing that stands out or particularly contributes to the overall experience.

I went there with low expectations and still was disappointed. Looking at menu and being familiar with Korean food, I wasn’t too thrilled to try this place but I was open to visit. Comes today, it was easy to get reservation and I enjoyed the company, so why not try it.

We ordered mulhwe which they forgot, jeju salad which was a bit too sour or refreshing depending on your palate, uni toast, and ribeye galbi.

Uni toast was ok. It didn’t blow my mind and I didn’t think the price was too offensive after SF premium, fusion premium, Korean food craze premium, Michelin write up premium, etc…. But it was just meh.

It was the ribeye galbi that was so bad, I left this restaurant with the impression they have given up. No effort to refresh menu, inject creativity, or be innovative. First of all, it wasn’t ribeye. Also, every component of this dish was done poorly compared to simple original. Ssamjang, baek kimchi, ssam vegetables, galbi itself were all bad. There was no element of creativity. It was just dulled down.
