I had planned some business in the neighborhood so I thought I’d stay nearby and found this B&B on Google Maps with a 4.9 star rating.
The building is a wood-construction building from the 1800’s and much of the original interior seems to be intact, which is kind of neat.  The bathrooms seem to be recently redone, with nice finishes and even Toto washlets with wall-mounted controls.  Our room otherwise was unremarkable with a strange combo of granny furniture and IKEA-grade window coverings and lighting.  Bed was fairly comfortable.
While the triple glazing did a great job of blocking noise from the street, noise from within was a different story.  We could hear a neighboring guest in the throws of sleep apnea, as well as a video call.  Breakfast was good but not the “culinary experience” the website would have you believe.  (Many packaged items, generic grocery store granola, etc.)
The closest metro station is about a 40 minute walk away (although buses are abundant nearby).  It was sort of nice staying in a more residential part of town, but if I were to do it over I would have stayed more central, especially if the cost were lower at a hotel.

what to even say without just gushing??? firstly, the staff are so incredibly kind, and were willing to work with us coming in on a very late flight and checking in around midnight. the breakfast options are all delicious- i'm still thinking about that quiche over a year later- and they also have a pretty robust selection of snacks laid out at all hours that saved us when we checked in late and needed something before we went to bed. perfectly located; easy to walk to a bus stop that will get you where you need to go within sf, which is also right next to a target that we hit up multiple times for small things we forgot. the room was very comfortable for three, and the bathtub saved my legs after long days of walking. i'm not super tall (5'8") but even that height makes it difficult to find a bath that's actually deep enough to fully soak in. not so here! i could've fallen asleep in that thing and want to try and source one for my own home. this is not a joke. the price was right when split between the three of us, the area felt safe the entire stay, and the breakfast kept us full through most of the day, which helped keep our budgets in line. if i ever find myself in sf again, this is where i'll stay, no question.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Monte Cristo. The employees were super nice and helpful. The rooms are spacious and well-decorated. The beds are comfy. The toilet in our room had a heated seat, which was a pleasant surprise! We enjoyed the breakfast that was provided. When we come back to San Francisco, we'll be sure to stay here.

So glad we found this wonderful B&B. It  will now be our place to stay when we visit SF. Warm, welcoming, beautiful and well kept up historic building in a quiet neighborhood. We didn't want for anything. Also found parking on a nearby residential street.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect! It is very quaint and feels soo homey. The breakfast was delicious and all the little treats they put out during the day were such a fun addition! The location was also a plus as it was so easy to get pretty much everywhere. I would absolutely stay again!

There are a few things that I noticed that I was a little surprised by, the size of our room was smaller than your typical hotel room but was not an issue, there is a full length mirror in the main hallways but we didn’t have one in our room as well as no microwave/fridge. None of these had a major impact on our stay, but just a few things to note.

Overall we had a fantastic time at The Monte Cristo and can’t wait to come back!
