If you are interested in nature, plant life, or just want to be away from the city, the Lyon Arboretum is a wonderful place to visit that will not only immerse you in nature and beautiful sights, but you might learn a thing or two about the plants and trees in Hawaii. Be sure to book your reservation online to secure your spot as there is limited parking.

The guide at the information check in and small gift shop was very helpful in suggesting some trails to take and once we get there, we basically have free rein to explore the large grounds of Lyon Arboretum. We really enjoyed the views at Inspiration Point and if it wasn’t for all the ants, we could’ve had a nice picnic there.

Don’t forget to bring bug spray though. Lots of mosquito bites!

Fun to combine with the Manoa Falls trail since they're next to each other. It rained pretty good on the day I visited but the sun came out by the time I got to the Inspiration viewpoint. Nice gardens off to the sides so make sure to detour from the main path to enjoy the full arboretum.

This was one of my favorite place to visit in Oahu! Oahu has so many wonderful places but I loved this because it was unexpected and wonderful. If you go to Monoa falls this is a must see place. I would even say if you had a choice between Monoa and Lyon, I would pick Lyon Arboretum.

We checked in at the visitor center and paid the $5 suggested donation per person. Got a map and away we went.

For someone who gets lost easily, this botanical garden is a wonderful place to do it. About 15 minutes into our visit we went off the paved path. We thought we were traipsing all through the garden for about an hour only to find out that we were at 1I and not 11 on the map which is about 3/4 of the way to the waterfall. This meant we were pretty much at the beginning. We had gone up and down and all around. The hike is beautiful - very muddy since it was raining when we were there. They do have a hose that you can spray down your shoes near the parking lot.

I absolutely enjoyed my time there and wished I could’ve stayed longer.

We were lucky that we were able to go in. Apparently live action Moana was going to be filmed there the week we were there. Luckily they were not filming that day.

It was gorgeous. The woman at parking said we needed reservations, but we can head up and see if they're taking walk ins. They were, only bummer, was we got there right before 3, and they closed at 3. I could imagine spending at least an hour or two just walking around and exploring up there.

The rideshare drop-off/pick-up location is right outside the Manoa Falls store/restroom.  Walk up the road to the left to find stairs to the Arboretum gift shop/entrance.  You can walk to the lookout for a view of the falls, but I'd suggest appropriate shoes.  Buy bug spray in the gift shop (it doesn't harm the environment or you, and it's useful).
