This restaurant is worth every penny. For a party of six we shared 8 different items curated by the chefs and they did not miss on any bite. You could pick your own course, but the owners sent us through their own personal selection of the current menu. The menu is always changing so we will be back to go through another journey in the future! As a plus, they allow you to bring your own beer/wine/tequila and make their own margarita mix to accompany your tequila.
The space is small, so I would highly recommend making a reservation, even for 2 people. The space also loud because of this. Walk ins are allowed, but I saw many groups turned away without a reservation. The bar can seat about 4 people so you’d be lucky to sit there. My reservation was done through email which was new and almost deterred me from coming here, but I’m glad I didn’t turn away. Soraya was very quick with communication through email and the process was easy. Remember, it’s a cash/venmo only restaurant and you’ll likely spend $60-$70 per person so be prepared. Don’t wait on trying this restaurant!!!

I enjoyed the food and the service and the atmosphere at this restaurant SO MUCH while I was in Chicago that I went two nights in a row.

The negative reviews seem to be mostly related to people being surprised by some of the rules at this restaurant. They do ask you to order all your food at once, they do have a minimum food order, and they do control how much alcohol they allow you to consume.

They only tahr reservations via email, and are cash only.

If you are aware of these rules in advance, everything will go swimmingly, and you will have the most amazing dining experience !

This is a small woman owned business, the owner clearly cares deeply about her customers, and took the time to stop by the table. Highly recommend.

Don’t forget to bring your own tequila!

Great week to unite with friends at Chilam Balam. Great service, excellent food, owner Soraya Rendon, outdone herself with this fabulous lowkey restaurant in the heart of Lakeview. Congrats Soraya for making Guy Fieri’s list of places to dine. This place never gets boring, half of their menu gets swapped out with new cuisine each month.  Notable among the rankings of Illinois’ Michelin Guide Restuarant.

Drop the boring 🍣 sushi date and sass up the evening at 💃 Chilam Bilam!!! It won’t disappoint 🤤

Recommend: make sure to get a reservation or come right when they open to get seat. No drinks, bring your own. The service was really good, food as well though after having a few dishes there so much flavor in each that just feels like cacophony of things. Do not get watermelon dish/salad it just does not go well, had bad burps from it afterwards. The layered potato was awesome as well as their pistachio tres leches cake.
