We had just come back from New Orleans earlier in the month and were already missing the food there. Roux has now become our favorite brunch spot! The quality is fantastic here, so much so we ended up coming for both Saturday and Sunday.  The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is causal: you order and pay first before finding a seat. The weather was perfect for the charming outdoor deck (dog-friendly), but the inside was spacious and welcoming as well. There is no feeling of rush here; we felt able to take our time. The food comes out photo-perfect, and the attention to flavor combinations is immaculate. Don't forget a pastry to go, you don't forget it!

Perfect little southern breakfast/lunch place! The food is always so yummy and I love the setup of the place. When you get there you typically have to wait 10-15 minutes in line but once you order, you get seated and the food comes out very quickly. Theres a table w all the condiments, to go boxes, water, etc so you can help yourself! The food now is great - portion sizing is big, food is well seasoned, potatoes and chicken fried steak were so crispy, and the biscuits and gravy were so creamy. Beignets are a classic and one order comes with so many! I want to try everything on the menu easily! Will be back.

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT ROUX!!! The restaurant is surprisingly spacious both inside and outside. For the newbies, when you arrive, view the menu, place your order at the register, take your number, drink of choice and find your seat. The wait staff will bring your food to you. The service is QUICK and the food is tasty! I had the shrimp & grits. The only drawback was the plate was swimming in oil. But, the shrimp was well seasoned and the grits were creamy! I cleaned my plate. I can’t wait to return to try the beignets (yup) and the avocado toast which looked like a party on the plate! My only recommendation: GET THERE EARLY (before 11am). They do not take reservations and the line can very easily be out the door! I was told it’s very crowded when school is in session (the restaurant sits on the campus of The University of Chicago). My 1st experience was 5 stars! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! ⭐️

This place was delicious!! I’ll lead with the positives….the shrimp and grits were perfection honestly top 3 I’ve had and the others are in NOLA!!! The negative is I hated the deviled eggs. Salty and too much dill ruined it. Service fast and great. Atmosphere was nice the line to order can be long depending on the time of day. Overall great experience!! Will be back.

This is a pretty good brunch spot in Hyde Park. We arrived around 10.30 and got a table right away but saw a pretty big line waiting to order soon after! We got the shrimp and grits, country ham, fried catfish and the cinnamon roll. Everything tasted good and the portions were good too! Service was pretty quick, overall a good experience!
