my family and I took a tour out of Sitka Alaska today and Gracie and Spencer were awesome! They were knowledgeable and engaging. We got to see humpback, whales, eagles, sea otters, and sea lions!

Date of visit: July 18, 2025 We used Allen Marine Tours for a Glacier Viewing tour from the Disney Wonder Alaskan cruise. I don't know how much they have a say in the price, so I won't reference that here but instead focus on the great experience we had with the crew and boat for this excursion. First, hats off to this crew that appeared to be all-female, from the captain down to the cabin staff! Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the boat was comfortable and clean. Snack prices were actually quite affordable (all things considered) and I loved the variety of other items for sale, scoring some Alaskan salt for my brother-in-law for a future occasion. Also available were donut holes (terrible, don't eat) and salmon dip (actually quite good) at no cost. There was also the capturing of some glacier ice used to make some drinks, such as the Glacierita, which my mom said was good but very strong.

Lakeside - Fantastic Voyage. Anyone old enough to remember that song? Allen Marine Tours - Just DO IT!!! It was a FANTASTIC VOYAGE!! I was initially biting my nails out of anxiety for spending $300 a person ($900 without tips) for this side-excursion through Norwegian Cruise Line in Juneau but it was worth every penny. Some shore excursions you can book on your own, but we opted to go through the cruise line, because this boat pulls right up to the ship itself and you board directly from the cruise vessel onto Allen Marine! It was super cool. No tendering, no waiting in line to debark, no catching transportation to anywhere else, just step off the ship on Deck 4 (NCL). It's an all-day event, so you unless your cruise ship is in the port of Juneau for more than a day, you won't be able to do any other excursion as this is approximately a 7-hour tour. We got onto the boat at 3 PM and got back to the cruise ship by 9:30 PM (it was still light out in mid-May) THE BOAT: Manned by Capt Wyatt and Annalise, and a nice young man at the bar. - dual decks, up and down, covered. You can go on deck in open air too. Dress warm, it was doggone chilly up there with the wind. Hand got frozen trying to take pictures. There is some stair-climbing involved to go upstairs. We stayed downstairs so I had to keep running up and down the stairs to take pictures. The lower deck was spacious and comfy, and warm (see my pics for the stairs) - bathrooms (3 small closet-sized to the back of the boat behind the bar), darn, forgot to take pics. - sandwich lunch was provided in the price. It was a ham sando with a small bag of chip, plus bottled water. They offer complimentary hot chocolate, coffee, donut holes and toward the end some salmon dip on crackers (delicious!). - bar for imbibing (cash or credit). Don't forget to try the Glacierita, which is a blue margarita made from real glacier ice (450 yrs old ice) fished out of the ocean! It was actually very tasty, $12 each. I should have had more but didn't want to keep using the toilet. - no rocking, so no seasickness. - Annalise was awesome, giving history of the glaciers, the land, and the animals. CREATURES SEEN: - a huge flock of Eagles (a convocation, technically) fighting over fish in the ocean - Eagles vs a huge flock of seagulls looking for fish. - Pigeon Guillemots, very cute birds w/ bright red feet, and other birds such as Terns - A brown bear on the shore - Otters and seals (Annelise helped by pointing out the difference) - Whales in the distance; Allen Marine is one of the vessels tracking whales by going to Happywhale.com and identifying whales by their flukes (see my pic). The tracker online tracks whales going to/from Alaska/Hawaii and other parts of the world via sighting map and last seen, fascinating! THE VIEW: - not so impressive going to the glaciers - it took hours, but once in the Fjord and the North Sawyer Glacier, it was breath-taking. Hundreds of waterfalls spilling down from the mountains, icebergs floating in the ocean in different colors, the towering mountains, sea life. It was like the sound you hear in your mind when you see Valhalla. North Sawyer Glacier itself was interesting, but the scenery all around it were the stars! Large cruise ships cannot come into this area, so you'll need a company like Allen Marine to get you here. THE STAFF: - super nice and informative! Please tip them generously with cash. They have a generic tip jar at the bar, but at the end of the excursion, they all come and say goodbye to you at the exit, so you'll have an opportunity to tip them. RETURN FACTOR: a hundred percent yes, but cruises and excursions to Alaska are so expensive that this will probably be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, therefore strongly recommend forking out the money and do this, don't be cheap and miss out, this is truly spectacular! It was actually my favorite excursion of all time!! OTHER TIPS: - we went in mid-May, during the "shoulder season" so less crowds; this tour was not crowded in mid-May but your mileage may vary - not wheelchair friendly - young children may get bored on this excursion unless you bring some activities for them to do, like iPad/phone/toys - dress in layers, it's cold if you go up top to take pics or look around. the wind is pretty brutal. - take cash for tips and small purchases on board. - TAKE BINOCULARS!!! You're welcome.

Went in this excursion while on a cruise. The boat is nice, clean, and the narration was excellent. We saw many whale tails and the crew kept us informed of sightings. Overall, a great experience.

Awesome tour! We saw whales and sea lions. Captain Jenna and her team were amazing! They have free coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts. There is a bar available with other snacks and drinks for purchase. There are 3 restrooms on the boat and they are very clean! Highly recommend!

Outstanding whale watching tour! Our captain, Iris did a great job taking us to find several whales and our naturalist provided expert commentary. Everything about the operation is first class and very well organized.

Phenomenal cruise. During our two hours on the St Herman we saw: 1. Multiple whale surfacings (see photo), sorry don't remember the technical name. 2. Harbor porpoises, which we were told was very rare. 3. Sea Lions on a buoy, which other people have pictures of. The Captain and the naturalist narrator were excellent. Food by Alan was superb. As a bonus, not part of the tour, but on the bus ride home, we saw a black bear with two cubs. All in all an amazing day in Juneau, and would highly recommended this tour.

Whale watching with this wonderful group of people! Booked the excursion from our cruise and the St. John crew did NOT disappoint. Not only were they very pleasant and knowledgeable, we saw several whales and one particular humpback Eyelet breach 3 times! It was awesome! Kids were super happy with the experience and even chatted with the crew a bit. Highly recommend!

We had a good time with the St. Peter crew. Vicki, our Naturalist, was full of information and shared it willingly. We had several whale sightings which the crew identified. We saw a mother and her calf take a few minutes to rest lounging on the water. It was so neat to see!
