It's such a beautiful place!! Every season has its unique beauty, and Little Island looks pleasing to the eye in all of them. It is not just a photogenic place,but it is really nice to stroll around. You can spend hours here easily if the weather is nice. Since it's popular and not huge in the area, it gets crowded and packed!! One of the must visit places for those folks who love outdoors, waterfront and nature!!

Nice little island on the lower west side piers. It now is open and does not require booking. There is a lookout point and some seating and gathering spaces for open air concerts. Many tourists with their cameras and phones out for pictures. Would come back. The pilotis that the artificial island rests on are beautifully sculptural and the passageway into the island is a nice experience.

A really cool , beautiful, and underrated park to visit. It’s the perfect place to see the water and skyline views. Also has Chelsea market next door if you want something to eat. Lots of benches to sit at and relax or you can walk the paths to the top of the park. I went in mid October and the weather was very warm. Restrooms are available as well. Great place to visit overall!

Little Island is a nice little park inside the Hudson River. It’s a small little oasis within the city. I just expected it to be bigger since the pictures online looked like it’s a pretty big park. While we were there, all the picnic tables were taken, because it was a really nice Sunday afternoon. But it is still a nice spot. You could get some food at Chelsea market etc and just enjoy a nice afternoon outside. If you go on a beautiful day, make sure you have plenty of time to look for the best spot. :)

heard about Little Island and wanted to see what the hype was all about.  It was just awesome.  I was in wonderment on how much work went into the planning and building of the structure.  I just had to sit and take it all in.

It's an artificial island that protrudes into the water.  It is made of concrete pillars and sitting on top of the pillars look like tulip structures. At first, I thought the tulip structures were someone's behind because it is so well sculptured.  It It is a public park with manicured lawns, mini parks and assorted plants.  It is well kept and maintained.  It was once Pier 54.

Nestled in the heart of Manhattan along the Hudson River, Little Island is a remarkable urban oasis that blends innovative design with natural beauty. This artificial island and public park is located on the site of the former Pier 55 and has quickly become a beloved cultural and recreational destination for locals and visitors alike.

The story of Little Island began in 2013 when media mogul Barry Diller and the Hudson River Park Trust sought solutions to repair and revitalize Pier 54. They envisioned transforming this neglected pier into a vibrant public space that would reconnect the city with its waterfront. In 2014, design plans were officially announced, showcasing a bold concept for an innovative park supported by sculptural concrete pilings resembling tulip pots.

Construction on Little Island commenced in 2016, marking the start of an ambitious effort to create a truly unique park. The design team included Heatherwick Studio and landscape architect Signe Nielsen, who collaborated to bring the vision to life with a harmonious blend of architecture and landscape. However, the project faced significant hurdles, including legal challenges and cost overruns in 2017, which temporarily halted progress. Despite these setbacks, the team persevered to refine and secure the park's future.

In 2019, the project was renamed Little Island, capturing the essence of this small but impactful green space protruding into the Hudson River. The park officially opened to the public on May 21, 2021. With 132 distinctive tulip-shaped pilings elevating the park above the water, visitors enjoy a lush landscape of flower beds, manicured lawns, and winding paths. The park also features The Glade, a 687-seat amphitheater that hosts open-air concerts and cultural performances, and The Play Ground, an inviting area for families and children.
