This place has a Michelin star?

.....Why?

I guess they hand out stars for places that are good in theory. Or maybe they give them to places that used to be good. Whatever the case, it's obvious Red Paper Clip has potential, but that potential was about as realized as universal healthcare in the US.

- Sichuan Carpaccio: Why was this accompanied with sweet jujube sauce? It could've been so good without it--fresh, paper-thin slices of beef chicharrón nicely marinated with a Szechuan peppercorn chili oil sauce. This could've been amazing. Instead, the constant infusion of sugary sweetness ruined every bite. Meat should never be sweet, IMO--and definitely not carpaccio in particular.

- XLB Agnolotti: Tasty, creative and generously portioned. They should use this as the model for the rest of their menu.

- Lobster Three Ways: More like three ways to waste lobster. The miso beurre blanc version was overcooked and the sauce was too salty. Except it was surpassed by the salt & pepper claws, which tasted like they'd just been dipped in a salt bath. And the sticky rice version had barely any lobster, accompanied by nasty, bland, sticky rice that tasted like someone with no taste buds trying to imitate Chinese sticky rice.

We were so underwhelmed, we couldn't bring ourselves to waste more money on dessert. There's way, way better Chinese/Taiwanese fusion out there.

Tasting menu was amazing. Our pasta dish was moving (watch the video) 😬😆 no but everything was so delicious, favorite dish was definitely the lobster. Don’t have one complaint about any of the dishes. Such a fun experience!

The oyster and the everything brioche were delicious, and the rest was up to the standard, although it's not enough to get you full.

What was a bit off was the level of service:
Food  put aggressively on the table, lack of politeness and of articulation from the waiters when presenting the servings. Coming from abroad, and despite his poor level of service, I got worried that my waiter did not receive a tip. He abruptly redirected me to one colleague I assume to be the manager "hey, talk to him!" and left. The manager kindly explained to me the system of "delayed payment" and that the waiter would receive his tip once they close the shift. Which at that point I was almost starting to regret...

The seats, made of wood, were uncomfortable and there was a lot of proximity with the other tables.

I've visited several restaurants in the Michelin : this one deserves to be in there as a recommendation for the food, but because of everything else I don't think it deserves a star...

Great restaurant, would recommend. Awesome price to quality ratio.

Went with my wife on a Saturday night for dinner. We sat at the bar and had the tasting menu plus some cocktails.

Food was delicious, particularly the lobster fried rice (within the "lobster three ways"), the oysters and the dessert (the ice cream was superior). Great combination of flavors and textures. You can really see that, even though is "modern American" food, the identity of the chef is impregned into the dishes.
We also tried the hamburger and the chicken sandwich as we stayed several hours talking with Marcos. Both dishes were really good (particularly the hamburger).
Cocktails are a strong element of this restaurant, there is a lot of thought and efforts put into them. Nothing to envy to some of the best bars in NYC.

I would say this place has a great value preposition which perhaps is not being exploited; given the quality of the cocktails, the great price to quality ratio of the food and the nature of the dishes, it's a great spot for a superior night out without going through the hassle of "fine dining".
