A beautiful dinner that surprised us at every turn. The biscuit is one of the best I've had (and I saw one go to every table while we were there). The tuna crudo was a well balanced dish. Light and fresh. The celery salad was a risk that paid off. Went for it based on our waiter's suggestion and he was right. Delicious combination of the celery, mint, dates, and walnuts. The fresh cheese on top mellowed some of the sharpness of the celery. Our Gag Grouper was a perfect fish dish. Pictured is only half the dish since they split it and plated it in two dishes for us.

I am so happy to discover this hidden gem of culinary Charleston.
The food is amazing! All dishes artistically crafted.
Everything tastes fresh and perfectly balanced. They use lots of local ingredients, and do a lot of things in house. Their menu is creative and has a lot of unique offers, not just like everywhere else.
The atmosphere and service are excellent. Angela was our waitress and made us feel very welcomed.

We researched this reservation carefully before deciding on Lowland. Based on the number of good reviews and the good rep of the chef we went with it for dinner and were very pleased. It was cozy and not too noisy, as some have mentioned. We were in the main dining room downstairs. The decor is beautiful!

The food was complex and a wonderful dinner to round out our last night in Charleston. We started with the popular celery salad which I will be trying to replicate at home forever now. It was the fav if the night. We also had the shrimp cocktail with freshly grated horseradish in the sauce. Yum. We tried the pork schnitzel which was great but the star was the short rib dish. Get it!  It’s new this week and phenomenal. I am often skeptical of short rib in restaurants but this was perfectly moist and flavorful with no fat. The sauce was to die for. This dish left me wishing I lived closer.

Service was great and attentive down to the apple hand pie recommendation, which left us perfectly happy and stuffed.  This was a solid choice and I look forward to returning in the future when we visit!

I want to start out with the "good". The food was FANTASTIC. the flavors and presentation show that quite a bit of effort went in to making these dishes. The steak was one of the best, if not the best, I have had in Charleston. Our waiter explained that the chef says "no work, all play" and that was represented. Everything on the plates were edible, no peeling of shrimp or moving garnish to the side.

While the food was great, the service was absolutely horrid. The hostess was very nice, got us seated right when we walked in for our reservation. The server came to take our drink order, drinks were out in about 2-3 minutes. Very quick for how busy the night was. The issues occurred after the first round of drinks. Almost 30 minutes went by while we watched the server help all other tables in his section and completely avoided ours. I attempted to flag him down multiple times with no luck. The service was like this all night. When he did come back, he asked us to put our whole order in at once, which made us feel very rushed. Food came out about 45 minutes later. We asked for the check and the server immediately brought the check, closed us out, and we left. Very disappointed with how the service was last night.

Sadly, I do not think we will be returning unless it is bar service.

We discovered Lowland through Condé Nast Traveler and couldn’t be happier we did! The entire experience—from the food to the service to the cozy ambiance—was unforgettable.

Our waitress guided us with her recommendations, and every dish she suggested was a hit. The celery salad was the standout, with crisp, unexpected flavors that blew us away. Other favorites included the bluefin tuna with Carolina gold rice, shells and seafood ragu and the tavern burger.

The intimate setting and attentive service made the night even more special. If you’re in Charleston, trust the team at Lowland—you won’t regret it! Can’t wait to go back on our next trip!
