The museum was excellent to visit and explore.
There were so many exhibits to experience.
There was one just on volcanoes and what they could do, it was very interesting.
A cafe inside to tempt you with food and beverages.
A shop there for gifts too.
I recommend giving it the entire day to be able to see everything.
There is also a special area just for kids to explore and have a great time in.
We paid extra to walk through the blood suckers exhibition they had on, and that was definitely worth it.

It was interesting to see the donations made by various families. I loved the pottery collection. Those cups and saucers were so pretty. It is a pity the production stopped. Also another favourite was the WW1 trivia year by year. They should have had that for WW 2 also. The maori weapons and boats and the houses were another great attraction.

The cultural carvings and artifacts are beautiful and provide a sense of the people's roots in New Zealand.  I really enjoyed reading and hearing narration of the myths of different natural experiences, which are in the museum. The volcano exhibit was the best and interactive.

There is a children's area that is mildly interactive and engaging.

I was hesitant about visiting the Auckland War Memorial Museum because I'm bothered by the loss of young life lost in wars.  This museum contains not only a War Memorial but a history of the people who live in Auckland, the history past and present of the Maori people, natural history, Asian history, science,  an exhibition on volcanoes including an experience relating to volcanoes.  There is an audioguide.  The museum consists of three floors.  The third floor contains the War Memorial and exhibits from different wars.  I spent over 3 hours in this museum.  It really is a must-see.  It is well laid out.  You will find staff throughout who are eager to assist you.   There is a section on the first floor of about 12 people of all ages and backgrounds who live in and around Auckland.  I listened to all the stories, and it gave me a deeper understanding of the people.  The young boy who spoke reminded me so much of my grandson.  If you have time after the visit, I would also recommend visiting the winter garden, which is free entry.  You can see the green houses from the front of the museum.  It's about a 2 minute walk.
