I had a generally pleasant stay at the hotel, but it doesn’t quite live up to its high reputation. The rooftop, while visually appealing, offers nothing remarkable. In fact, if you sit facing west, you’re greeted with an unappealing view of a wall and antenna, which detracts from the experience.

The rooms are modern and well-decorated, but they don’t stand out compared to other hotels in the same category in Rio de Janeiro.

The service on the rooftop was particularly disappointing. The staff’s English is quite basic, and their uniforms don’t align with the hotel’s supposed sophistication. More concerning, the service lacks the polish expected of a 5-star establishment. Waitstaff are inattentive; you often have to get up to get their attention. Worse still, they serve wine by handing you the glass directly instead of placing it on the table—a basic lapse in service etiquette. Overall, there’s no hint of sophistication, and the team could benefit from significant retraining.

On a brighter note, the breakfast is fantastic, and the staff in the breakfast area are exceptional. The front desk team also deserves praise for their professionalism and helpfulness.

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and comfortable, but beyond the aesthetics, it falls short of the standards I’ve experienced at other 5-star hotels in Rio. Given the Fasano’s reputation and price range, I expected much more.

My family and I spent my birthday at Fasano. It must be because Brazilians are generally nice and welcoming because every single employee was nice and helpful. They made sure my stay was special. We had two different rooms. The courtyard view room was large and tastefully decorated, featuring a wraparound balcony; the one with the sea view was simply exceptional. Breakfast was excellent. The rooftop is nice, lovely views. It was great to have sun beds on the beach. Ipanema Beach is quite beautiful, especially in the morning. It's also well situated to be just a short walking distance from the Copacabana beach, where all the activities take place. Spa was also nice. Without a doubt, our favourite hotel to date. I would return tomorrow.

If considering staying in Rio, I have to tell you to consider a different hotel:
1) half of the rooftop deck is closed and there is daily construction noise and no notification on the website. Call ahead to see if open when you book.
2) there is a large variation in quality of service/staff. Some are fantastic (truly exceptional) and some are extremely rude. Example: when asking to turn a chair around in place that had wheels on it to see the mountain since the good view part of deck was closed, I was told I could not move the chair. It literally had wheels. It made no sense.  Why would I stare at a construction wall instead of a mountain? The person insisted I could not touch the chair.
When I went down to management he ultimately apologized and insisted on moving it for me himself (I could do it).
3) there were many “mishaps” like the above where the answer is “no” but does not make sense
4) it is a nonsmoking property yet that seems to be the one rule they do not enforce 😂 so just know if you have asthma etc people will be smoking
5) I am hoping that they are going through an ownership/management change but if they would like to remain any form of a luxury hotel my recommendation is to have a serious look at the staff training
6) the location itself is great for walking around Ipanema
7) the breakfast is superb
In its current state, it’s true value is about half the price it is…

great hotel / excellent service / nice rooftop pool if you’re interested / decent breakfast with good service / clean and safe.  Staff goes out of their way to make sure you’re happy.  I always prefer a room with a view personally, so try to face the ocean side or you’re looking at a wall - and try to be on floor 5 or above as floors 4 and below have you at eye level or worse (street lights are in your line of site which ruins the view especially at night)  with the ocean - suites are very nice (507 607 707) - expensive, but worth it and great location

Nice hotel with beach front service. I had an issue with my room but the team was very professional and helped to move me to another room. The food in this hotel is very delicious
