I’ve visited this place 3 years in a row (and is now kind of like a ritual when I visit Tokyo) I think it speaks to how much I love dining here!

Very authentic sushi experience in a small restaurant up a little hill in Ebisu that’s always packed with locals/regulars. The owner and chefs all speak some English and try to introduce to the foreign customers the different types of fish they serve and are all super friendly. The ingredients used vary depending on season which makes the experience so much fun.

Highlights for me from last night’s dinner were the chu toro, scallop, sawara, uni cone, a karasumi mochi wrap (!), crab over rice, and a temaki with some white fish that I’m having trouble recalling. I’ve never had sawara before and it was smoked to perfection before being made into a nigiri and leaves your palate with that creamy buttery taste balanced out with a delicate smokiness, I love karasumi but have never paired it with mochi and that combo is so good!🤤 They also have a great selection of sakes to pair with the food so definitely ask the chefs to recommend for you!

Everyone is courteous and we liked that the servers asked if we're familiar with the type of fish being served. The whole sit-down experience was roughly 2 hours and 45 mins. We were so full from all the delicious food.

Pretty disappointing visit for the price. The fish quality was good, but the rice was cold and didn’t stick together very well.

We had the private room and it felt very small, to the point where the waitress couldn’t go around to fill water or grab plates so we had to keep passing everything to the front of the table.

I felt like the presentation was kind of lazy on some of courses and it didn’t feel worth the price at all.

The staff were very friendly though. It just didn’t feel like a meal worth that much money.

I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the more negative reviews (re: Small rooms, fishy taste) but alas as some have stated it is subjective to one's palate. However note, this is an authentic Japanese omakase and it was very different from the omakase and sushi I've had from Western countries etc. They service sushi attuned to local taste with some flair and innovation. So if you're not open minded I wouldn't book. BUT they were extremely attentive and accommodating. I booked via pocket concierge and noted my partner did not eat oysters, as they knew in advance they substituted one dish for a simmered tuna which he loved. The sushi they served tonight (Winter Jan) was mainly centred on white fish such as mackerel and sardine. These fish do tend to have a stronger sea flavour but you realise fresh mackerel tastes smooth and sweet! Everything was genuinely delicious and some surprised us (Shirako was like a smooth egg custard !). The service by staff and chefs was excellent, professional, smooth and yet not pretentious. It's a small venue which makes for an intimate setting. They kept refilling our tea without asking  and we finished the night with delicious icecream. You leave VERY full and satisfied. The staff know enough English to tell you which fish is being served. :)

We had an incredible experience at Takumi Sushi Owana. The fish is of the highest quality and freshness, and carefully prepared with love. Our favorites were the otoro, aji (horse mackerel) and white shrimp with egg yolk sauce. The snacks were equally satisfying, especially the crab chawanmushi. The service was gracious, and everyone was extremely friendly. We really enjoyed watching the master work and chatting after the meal. The staff speaks relatively good English.
