We ended going here due to a cancelled concert. As a Helsinki local I had somehow missed this restaurant, and decided to check it out. The restaurant is cozy and the staff experienced and friendly. The both had menus with some vine pairings, and everything was excellent overall. Very happy and will go again some time!

The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, great food, and lovely service. The kitchen was flexible, making small changes to the sides when we preferred alternatives. I highly recommend it. A special thank you to all the waitstaff and the bartender!

Warm and welcoming atmosphere with promising bar when you enter. We had the 6 course tasting menu with some limiting dietary restrictions and everything including the matching wines were handled superbly. Cannot recommend highly enough. Not the cheapest place, but worth it.
Drinks and vermouth selection is excellent. Will definitely visit again.

Mat distrikt is located in the heart of Ullanlinna, a beautiful part of Helsinki with lots of Jugendstil buildings. On a friday afternoon parking was good, with plenty of free spaces close to the restaurant.
We had planned a light early dinner and sat down to our table once the doors opened at 5 pm.
The dining hall is open and quite ascetic. Tables are relatively close to each other and you could easily eavesdrop the next partys convo. Calm, earthly colors are buzzed up with a electric blue sofa, that runs full lenght on the back wall. Tablecloths were gone - I don't know, if they forgot them that night, or was it a style statement.
Service was a bit over-friendly to my taste. The style of smalltalk was unorthodox to hear from a waiter to a patron, at least I haven't heard a waiter describe their soup "fu**ing good" before. That was a bit odd, but otherwise all smiles and no complaints further.
The food was surely the best part of our visit. Both of the Entrées were great. Entrecôte with chimichurri butter was tasty and well executed, perfect doneness. The meat of the day was Pork belly with cabbage and Mojo-sauce. This one was also a good, bold dish.
As a dessert we had some grilled strawberry Icecream with  white chocolate. A good ending for a meal. Strawberries are in season now and you could really taste it. Good combination of well paired flavors.
The food was really good, but I was honestly perplexed by the whole experience. Looking at the menu- especially the prices, you don't expect mix-and-match tableware, a giant cardboard-menu that is written with a sharpie to be passed on tableside or obscenities from the waiter. There were some truly great moments in our visit, but in the end I couldn't tell what was the concept of this rastaurant. There's lots of potential, but there's also some developement to do as well.
