The pros : family run restaurant, beautifully decorated, with great attention to details and excellent service. Offering dishes of the previous century but cooked in a modern kitchen, opened on the dining room. Great choice of wines too, at Finnish prices (😦).
The cons : temperature in the restaurant could have been warmer.

We had @sekel the Century Menu with wines by Filip Langhoff &  Linda Stenman-Langhoff. What a great service that was. I can say a only a humble thank you. We had an amazing evening ✨️

At the Sekel they have chosen the wines and  the menu and ofcourse the ambience from a century ago. And it looked really fantastic and the food tasted  so, so yummy 👏

It has sayed that the Menus are minor, transient documents that tell us how people have dined outside the home over time. And that I believe Filip Langhoff & Linda Stenman-Langhoff have managed to make.

So I can say anything special then I warmly recommend visiting restaurants Sekel.

Tonight I had the honour and privilege to dine at Selek Restaurant Helsinki. A wonderful experience indeed.

Wife Sommelier + Maitre d’ & Chef Husband team even with son in the bar. What a great team. I must apologise for not getting their names I was just in the amazing moment.

Petite fours delicate delicious morsels.  The 1st a mini morsel of Caviar & Cucumber. What a balance of a dish. The cucumber hits the topi of your palate then the caviar explodes in your mouth. Oh what a beginning.

Beautiful Foie gras duck liver pate port wine jelly. Hmmmmmmm. Port jelly was a perfect balance to the Foie gras.

Scallop & peas soup fried kale. The aroma is just amazing. Scallops flavour with sweet peas. Just the aroma is amazing. I could eat a bucket of the pea soup its delicate sweetness goes so well with the scallop. Scallop cooked perfectly.

Then - So so delicately good. Finnish Trout with Trout mousse Small Crayfish & thin slices steamed leeks. Oh my gosh I’m back in heaven. Delicate soft food that swims around my mouth. The mousse is sensational. Just a wonderful dish cooked expertly. Thank you.

Watching the chefs and the perfection they put into the smallest of things. Cleaning plates is given high attention. No wonder the food is so bloody good.

Hen is the description- The aroma is just bloody awesome Breast & Leg rest of bird is used for the amazing sauce.  The gravy is just perfect. I’ve no doubt it times to get it as perfect as this. Delicious stickiness heavenly chicken flavour. I even mopped it up with bread. Awesome dish chicken perfect. Chicken leg with Truffle shavings just hmmmmmm
Wine. Perfect match

Desert a wonderful finish of cherry white chocolate, cherry meringue & white chocolate ice cream. I might that description wrong. But it was a wonderful finish to an experience I will not forget. I thank the family for their attentiveness and perfection. I’ll be back it might a year but this is not a restaurant to miss.

Then the finale was a pleasant and insightful 10 minute conversation with the head chef. We just chatted about food and the theories behind different styles. It was just a great thing as I collected my coat. Fantastic to finish off my food journey. Loved it.

Amazing atmosphere and creative top quality plates. The wine pairings worked, but it would be great if the sommelier were more ambitious with the wines from glass strategy.
The wine list has extraordinary wines what shows that the sommelier and the chef have really good taste. But they should be brave to offer their wines from the glass. Unless if the wine list is functioning as decoration as it is common in many places. The excuse that these wines are so expensive that it is too big risk to keep them open is something what sounds good, but not entirely acceptable. If you open a Marcel Deiss and sell two glasses for a decent and still reasonable price you do not need to worry about the rest of the bottle.  Primarily because a wine in Marcel Deiss class will easily survive (maybe even develop) even a month opened. Second, for an enthusiastic and professional sommelier like at Sekel it can not be a challenge to sell any rare wine in days or max weeks. So my suggestion would be to be more courageous and more ambitious with your outstanding wine collection. Sell those beauties, they are made for drinking.

Modern touch for menus from hundred years ago, run by a michelin-star chef. Comfortable prohibition-era atmosphere and super food + wines. Also has a private area for bigger groups.
