Beautiful Art Deco hotel in a fabulous location in Reykjavik.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
We booked a superior room, which was spacious and comfortable. Nice comfortable bed with separate duvets (which seems to be a thing in Nordic countries)
The main issue with the room was that the hot water took a good 5 minutes to reach the taps, so you'd have to turn the tap or shower on and go about your business while you waited for it to warm up, which felt at odds with the sign in the bathroom about reusing towels to save water.
Breakfast was nice, if a small bit limited, but the restaurant is a lovely space, and it was never crowded.
No parking, but that's standard for a city centre hotel in most countries, and the nearest car park is less than 5 minutes away on foot.

We loved everything, the whole of our stay was super enjoyable. Our room was huge with a bath - which is such a plus, all toiletries supplied were Molton Brown. Room service was super quick and very reasonably priced (for Iceland). Breakfast was probably one of the better buffet breakfasts we've had in Iceland (as most tend to be pretty basic).
Location wise you are very close to the centre, only a 5 minute walk, we hired a car and there was a large underground carpark about 2 minutes walk away.
Finally the spa was just wonderful, a real treat after walking around in the cold all day, Elizabeth who worked in the spa was so friendly & attentive - a real asset to the hotel!

Loved the hotel!!! Nice welcome on arrival. Only slight grumble a guy on reception wasn't the most helpful on day 2 and was more interested in counting his key cards while I was stood there for 2 mins but this is been picky as overall it was a top stay and hotel. The wine for my birthday was a lovely gesture.

Low value for money - sorry but this price is far off the value you get - let’s start with the good things (but somehow expected in a 4-star):
Spacious rooms (upgrade with booking.com), clean, very nice location, good English bar right across the square

What was not good:
We had the impression that staff was not very well educated; e.g. we faced a situation during breakfast where staff wasn’t service oriented at all; also on New Year Eve the Bar and Restaurant weren’t open, not good for a 4-star, seems as if they have staff shortage;
Also in our culture it is very uncommon paying extra for SPA in a 4-star, wasn’t well communicated and such not expected and very small on top of this, gym … what gym?; also paying extra for cappuccino, not good at all;

All in all very disappointing - I agree to the latest rating and wished I‘d read them earlier, but booked in beginning of 2024 already

There are much nicer places to stay downtown than this. It was not old world charm, it was a 2 star hotel charging 4 star prices.

1. There is no parking nearby and to stay overnight you need to park in the garage. For almost 2 days it was $148.
2. Breakfast is basic with banquet style tables and they charge for anything more than drip coffee.  The eggs were powered and not a lot of variety.  We stayed at 7 other hotels while in Iceland and they all had a better breakfast than this one which was supposed to be one of the nicest given it's self rated 4 stars.
3. Rooms all had damage to the walls and bed covers were old and pilling.  Both rooms we stayed in had cleanliness issues as well with unchanged sheets and a bathroom sink that was never wiped down.
4. There are so many other options in downtown, choose anything but this one!
