Had a nice dinner here.

I was shockingly the only diner there the whole night. Well at least that late. No one else came in while I was there and it looked like they were closing just as I was finishing up.

They don’t offer a wine pairing, but since they have a ton of wine, I asked the guy if I can have a glass with every serving. In hindsight, I probably should have just gotten 3 glasses or a bottle. The total cost of all the wines together ended up being nearly equal to the cost of the tasting menu. A little wild.

There were 11 courses total.
The presentation was super impressive. One that stood out for me was the dish with a bunch of flowers. It was almost too pretty to eat. The fish dish on a bed of mashed potatoes was original and I judged it too quickly. The combo was so weird, but it worked. It was so tasty.

The first dessert dish opened up my palate for more sweets. The third snd closing dessert came with 3 small pieces.

I highly suggest putting together a drink pairing menu for those of us that imbibe. I felt a little robbed with how much the cost ended up being of all the wines when they didn’t pour that much.

After completing El Camino we treated ourselves to a celebratory dinner at Simpar and thank St James we did!  The food, service and atmosphere exceeded all expectations.  Our waiter was only 2 days into the job, yet was intimately familiar with the menu and expertly guided our wine selection.  The courses were very creative, expertly mixing flavors, textures and appearance. I’m not sure where the chef was trained, but he knows his stuff.  Although the portions are modest, they are plentiful and more than enough to fill the belly after our long walk.  And lastly Simpar is great value for money given the quality of meal, wine and venue.  I cannot speak highly enough of Simpar and hope the restaurant continues to be a great success.

A very nice surprise.  The four amuse bouche of mushroom is seasonal and delicious especially the meringue with mushrooms. What a wonderful combination! The skate with garlic and paprika was so enjoyable. On our second visit, the red mullet was perfectly tender, delicious and just beautifully slightly cooked. The pigeon confit was one of the best we've tasted. They won the best tripe in Spain.  It was good but thick like the typical Spanish style tripe.  Totally different from our preferred Italian style tripe.  The wine recommendations were excellent. A beautiful elegant Albariño for the first time.  Then a fresh and beautiful light body red wine (a Mencía blend) that was really a gem. So unlike the typical full body Spanish red wine. This was more like a burgundy. Both were from Bodega Albamar.

This place should qualify for a Michelin star! Absolutely exceptional from the warm smiling welcome to every course of delicious, beautifully presented dishes. Service was wonderful too. Recommended to everyone I know. I will be delighted to bring friends and family here again.
