Went for NYE dinner. Service was excellent. Food was good. Didn't care for the ricotta dumplings, and the salmon and sides were quite salty. Roasted chestnut soup, daikon cakes, and chocolate mousse torte were delicious though. Very loud though. Could use some sound absorbing.

A friend picked this place for a meet up. Apparently it’s hard to get tables but we managed to get an early seating. They have a nice selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. The bread was warm and the butter nicely salted. We split the thinly sliced scallop appetizer. For our main, we ordered the spaghetti, risotto and tuna. While the food had presentation were great, the portions were tiny. Even though I wasn’t super hungry, I could have used a few more bites of my risotto despite the appetizer. We ordered the lumberjack cake which was delish. One of my dinner companions said irl that it was his favorite dish out of the whole meal.

A canceled trip to Paris for the holidays turned into a food journey of San Francisco, hitting some of the most highly rated restaurants in the city. Frances was one of the best and most enjoyable for the price . I did the chef's (8 course)tasting menu with wine to pair. Everything was enjoyable and delicious, my favorites were: "hokkaido SCALLOP crudo, aji cristal aguachile, badger flame beets, sesame" the cristal aguachile added a nice citrusy kick paired well with a sparkling wine from the Lorie Valley. The carnaroli RISOTTO, marina di chioggia, beemster xo gouda, fino sherry, sage, was a pleasant surprise, the sage added a nice burst of flavor, which paired well with the white wine. The TANSY Pinot was a beautiful match with the King Salmon. The meal ended on a high note with the Lumberjack Cake paired with a dessert wine. In the end I left very happy, for the price paid Frances offers an incredible culinary experaince.  Not only is the food and wine wonderful the service was a 10 and the place has a good atmosphere. France is a San Francisco neighbor gem!

I had high hopes for Frances, especially for my mom’s birthday, and didn’t want to be deterred by the recent negative reviews. But unfortunately, the experience fell short and I left disappointed. The appetizers were underwhelming—scallops were overpowered by the citrus flavor and the bacon beignets were too heavy and bready. The house made sourdough and squash risotto was just okay, and while the soup was decent, it wasn’t memorable. The wagyu short rib was the highlight of the meal. For the price point (nearly $300), I expected much more. Overall, it was a decent meal, but not worth the cost or the hype.

Läs om Frances i en nyhetsartikel och gick på en söndag kväll. Det är snyggt, men enkelt dekorerat en liten plats i Castro med mycket små bord för två (som jag hatar) och bullriga, men måltiden var fantastisk, tjänsten var bra. Vi hade provsmakningsmenyn, och allt var bara enastående. De bästa sakerna var förmodligen grönsaker, Little Gem sallad var bara enastående, pol bönor förrätt var underbar. Kikärtfriterna och baconbeignetterna var fantastiska. Hälleflundra var perfekt och stek var stor. Desserter var bra. Priset ($ 65) för provsmakningsmenyn var lämpligt och när jag beställde cider förde servern mig en liten mängd prosecco som min man hade beställt, för att tidvatten mig medan cideren svalnade. Smakmenyn är mycket mat, även om delar inte var alltför stora.

Vi var på semester i San Francisco och hade lärt oss av restaurangen, Frances, genom några av våra vänner. Vi hade gjort en reservation, och när vi kom dit, vi uppgraderades från en två-topp till fyra-bordet vid fönstret. Wow! Vi hade en bra start. (Restaurangen är ganska liten och de två topparna är väldigt nära varandra, så vi kände oss som om vi hade vunnit lotteriet!)

Vår server (inte Tara vid denna tidpunkt) var lite på "inte så vänlig som man borde vara i denna verksamhet" sida. (Kanske var hon inte glad att de fyra topparna nu var upptagna av bara två personer istället för fyra.) Jag kunde ha nedgraderat Frances till en 4 på grund av den lite "kyliga" tjänsten av vår huvudserver, men en annan server, Tara, en server i träning för bara hennes andra dag, sparade dagen! ! ! Hon tog så stor omsorg för oss så mycket att jag frågade innan vi lämnade om jag kunde få min bild med henne! (Så om du kan begära en server, fråga om Tara. Du kommer att veta eftersom hennes ögon är så vacker färg.)

Jag tror att ett antal recept är inspirerade av ägarens mormor och jag tror att restaurangen heter Frances, efter ägarens mormor.

Vi åkte dit till middag under vår vistelse i San Francisco. Maten var fantastisk och jag rekommenderar verkligen att boka det i förväg Vi delade ett par aptitretare - bacon croquettes och beignets. Det är så gott. Då min man hade biffen och jag hade torsken. De var båda mycket bra. Vi hade huset rött vin som var bra också!

Gör bara en bokning innan någon annan gör det först. Och om de bara har ett bord på 5:30, ta det. Vi hade provsmakning menyn och det var spektakulärt. Varje maträtt var utsökt. Bara gå.

Hade en ny middag på Frances. Hade varit där för några år sedan och hade en underbar måltid med stor tjänst och innovativ god mat. Var lite besviken den här gången. Vi tillbringade mycket tid att vänta på att både ha vår beställning och mellan kurser. Vi satt omedelbart för vår reservation. Men då beställde vi inte för 20 + minuter. Väntetiden mellan kurser var upp till 10 minuter. Vi var tvungna att fråga 2 x för bröd. De olika rätterna var mestadels bra. Men min fläskhack var alltför salt, som jag antar var från en för stark saltlösning. Servitören var lite udda. När vi bad honom att beskriva vissa rätter, läste han bara av menyn. Vi klargjorde och bad om en beskrivning (t ex kakan var tunn eller tjockare, hade fläskkutten en kappa på fett på den osv.) Hans svar verkade oinformerade och mycket ytliga. Maten övergripande var inte lika intressant eller annorlunda som tidigare. Slutligen var restaurangen alltför varmt. Vi var lyckligtvis genom dörren som regelbundet var öppen för att minska värmen.
