This being my first night, I could’ve waited until I complete my stay here. But if I could help another me out there who’s wondering about booking this hotel right now, I’ll tell you. Don’t even dare. I understand that any disturbance by the hotel union workers’ strike is no one’s fault. But I booked this place relying on the hotel’s promise to put me where I could sleep. They forgot about it although I made a separate call to request and had their assurance. But it’s fine. They switched me to another room when I told them the room they originally arranged to me is directly affected by the noise. Got much tiny but as long as I can sleep, it’s fine. Found a bunch of trash under the bed. Some odd things like water bottle lid and straws.. But it’s fine. I’ll sleep on the bed not below. There are threads of hairs of Jane doe on the bed. Hmm I’m not sure if this is still fine. Housekeeping is not available now at 7pm and they wouldn’t lend me a vacuum cleaner. Okay fine. I’ll use a clean towel between so Jane Doe doesn’t touch me. Why is my nose ice cold? I now realize that the heater isn’t working and the temp is 64F. It’s almost fun at this point. Never had this kind of experience in any hotels I stayed so far. But I do not recommend it if this didn’t happened to you yet.

A good, basic hotel that does the job. Room and bathroom were small but clean and well furnished for the size. Great value and centrally located. Safe area near high-end shopping.

They have a lounge area on the 2nd floor with a bar where they provided coffee in the morning. It has the potential for breakfast or happy hour type of amenity but was not provided during our stay.

3 stars b/c rooms were small and there was no service to speak of. Overall 4 due to location and value.

The only real negative, which was not the hotels fault, were the striking hotel workers one block away. They protested loudly with drum beating and bull horns from 7am - 10pm daily. There may be multiple hotels with striking workers so do a little research if that would be an issue.

Me and my husband were getting married in San Francisco and stayed here for the duration of our wedding. The staff is top notch! Rachel was so helpful and accommodating, and made sure that our stay went as smoothly as possible to ease our wedding stress. The hotel allowed us to have packages delivered here which was incredibly helpful since our wedding was destination. The hotel was so cute and cozy, a perfect boutique hotel! We will come back again.

Great location, and that’s probably about it.

the staff seems to be clueless or genuinely stoned.

Our room was not serviced a single time during our 5-nights stay. I have never been into an hotel that hasn’t got cleaning services in place. The room we stayed in hadn’t even really been cleaned before we arrived, we found some dirty greasy lids of food under the bedside table.
It’s really a shame because the renovation of this place is beautiful, but it looks like nobody is managing it.

A little extra note for the arrogance of the person who’s now in charge of the bar, who refused to give us some ice. If you’re going to have a bar in a hotel, maybe be kind and helpful to the hotel guests, then they may want to go to your bar, which sadly had absolutely nobody in and no vibes, probably due to your attitude towards people and your lack of marketing the place properly to make it an environment anyone would want to be at.

Update: I appreciate the reply from the hotel but these aren't exactly issues you can rectify, the place is a dump. Are you going to do millions of dollars in remodeling on my behalf? My guess is they were going to offer me a discount on another stay, which is a laughable approach to solving these issues given I would rather sleep outside on the ground before I stay in a Palihotel ever again.

Ok, let's talk about Palihotel SF. These other reviewers are putting a nice, gentle spin on this place. I've stayed here twice in the past month and am confident I have a good assessment of the establishment. I won't be staying there or at any Palihotel again. Donny at the front desk is great though.

Let's start with the location. This hotel is nestled in a dirty corner of a dirty street, surrounded by the city's expansive trash problem, and is so easy to miss that my Ubers drove past it twice during my stay. For anyone unfamiliar with cities, this hotel's location alone could make someone uncomfortable. It's a dark streetcorner that feels unfriendly at night, and I'm a big dude. I would not let my wife stay there.

Next, the ambience: you can hear multiple hotel worker's strikes from almost anywhere in the building. I'm pro-labor and support the strikers, but I wish I'd known this hotel provided ample street views and sounds of the picket line before I booked it, and I wish another place had been available when I had to visit SF a second time in less than a month.

I also wish I'd known (for my first stay) that they were going to put me in an ADA room with downward-angled bathroom mirrors that I couldn't use while standing (I'm 6'4"). I get the other rooms were full, but putting me in that room was like stuffing a giant clown in a tiny car. When they tried to do it AGAIN on my second stay, I had to put my foot down politely, and suddenly another room that had a King bed was available. Wild, right? Psh. More like BS.

The interior paint color reminds me of my grandparent's cigarette-smoke-stained walls. That sickly, beige/tan/yellow-ish color. Not exactly welcoming, it just felt dingy and dirty.

The elevator is literally a historic landmark with a plaque in the lobby, i.e. super sketchy and unreliable. I carried my luggage down 8 flights of stairs when I was checking out because I pressed the button and waited 10 minutes, it never arrived. Hard pass.

No alarm clocks in the rooms.
No phones to dial the front desk from rooms. Can't call the front desk from a cell since the provided number in this business listing does not work.

The bathroom sink was too small for me to wash my hands without getting water on the floor. And washing my face in it? Not a chance in the Non-ADA room, there's a ledge blocking you from getting your face over the sink. It's silly. It felt like washing my hands in a drawer.

HVAC? Yeah, no. No heat or A/C in either of the rooms I stayed in. And the windows wont stay open to create any kind of cross-breeze, but you *can* hold them open.

Oh, and don't poop unless you plan to courtesy flush every 30 seconds because otherwise the toilet will clog and back up, and they know this is a recurring issue because when I asked the maintenance guy for a plunger he said the pipes here suck and you gotta "Flush after every bit of your deposit. Flush flush flush."

Oh, crappy wifi, bad coffee, and a weak bar on the 2nd floor not worth walking into.

So, the hotel sucks, but Donny the desk dude rules, and I'm not a fan of whoever it was trying to stick me in the ADA room (it was the same person both times) given I'm clearly not the right size person for that room. Although, any disabled person with any other lodging option should STAY FAR AWAY given their atrocious elevator.

My work's travel booking system recommended this place and I plan on filing this review in that booking system as well. This is my least favorite hotel I've stayed in since I was living in a Budget Host Inn in Junction City, KS in my early 20s, and this place is only slightly better because there were no bugs.
