Z&Y Restaurant in San Francisco is a great Saturday vibe. I was seated right away, and the server was kind and helpful—he made sure to ask if I had any questions before taking my order. The place has this cozy yet energetic feel, with lots of people chatting and enjoying their meals. It’s busy but not chaotic, which I was nervous about when I read previous reviews.

Service was quick, the atmosphere was warm.

I ordered Jasmine Tea with Spicy dumplings & the Tea Smoked Duck. Food was amazing! I would recommend what I ordered!

After a less than ideal experience at another Chinatown restaurant, I was hoping that I’d get a better experience here. I’d heard good things about Z&Y.

My group made a reservation a couple of days in advance, and upon arriving, it made sense. Unlike other restaurants, this place was packed. We were seated quickly, but they crammed us in pretty good.

The food itself was above average. I found the frog legs and fish to be tasty, but not phenomenal, especially for the relatively premium prices.

What really annoyed me is that they also include a 10% service charge on top of their already high prices. As out of towners, we asked what this was for, and they said that the state required it. We later discovered that this wasn’t true.

The food was good, but I don’t like being misled.

Super-packed, to an almost extreme extent with little space between tables; Michelin Guide in 2021. Our order was taken before we were seated since it was so full.

The pancake with beef appetizer was pretty good, with a crispy outside and nice filling inside. The beef and shrimp fried rice were both pretty good, but the real star was the House whole fish (black bass), which was piping hot, fresh, and had that signature numbing effect.

Food was great, but be cautious of heading down during the busiest season since it can be pretty extreme haha!

I had such a great experience at Y AND Z restaurant! Everything we tried was seriously delicious and felt so high-quality. The orange chicken was just perfect—crispy on the outside with a sauce that was spot-on, not too thick or too runny. And the pork soup dumplings? Amazing. They paired perfectly with the plum vinegar, which added just the right kick.

We also ordered the truffle fried rice, and wow, it was something special! Different from what you usually get at a Chinese restaurant, but in the best way possible. To top it off, we had chrysanthemum tea, and they actually serve it with whole flowers in the cup, which was such a cute touch. It was warm and comforting, especially on a chilly Sunday night. I’ll definitely be coming back to Y AND Z!
