This was our second time dining here, and we’re so glad we decided to give it another shot. Our first visit, which was on a busy weekend, didn’t quite hit the mark—crowded, a bit too loud, and not the vibe we were hoping for. However, our weekday evening experience this time around was a game-changer! It was quieter, more intimate, and the service was outstanding—truly attentive and warm.

We started with the crab cakes appetizer paired with an arugula salad, and it was absolutely phenomenal—one of the highlights of the meal. For our entrées, we had the fettuccine with ragu, which was rich and flavorful, and the chef graciously made a special carbonara for me, even though it wasn’t on the menu. While the sauce leaned more toward a milk-based preparation rather than the traditional yolk, Parmesan, and pasta water combination, it was still delightful and satisfied my craving.

We ended the evening with their tiramisu, which was the perfect sweet finish—light, creamy, and delicious. We look forward to coming back again!

I usually don’t feel compelled to write negative reviews, but I can’t remember the last time I was this disappointed by a meal. For a 2 dollar sign restaurant, there are certain expectations for the quality of food that Gioia was not able to come close to meeting.

We came here for a friend’s birthday and as a table we ordered the risotto from the specials (not pictured), table side gioia nei paccheri (not pictured), fettuccine (pictured), and rigatoni (not pictured). Every dish mentioned was significantly under seasoned and lacked substance. We all requested a heaping tablespoon of parmesan and chili flakes to try to make the food more palatable and it only helped marginally.

We ordered the crème brûlée for dessert and the mediocrity of this dish actually made me upset because why was this a pudding with a layer of not crunchy sugar that was burnt on top.

I wish I had better things to say about this place but not worth paying this much for food you could easily make better at home.

I really hate being hit with hidden charges.  When we walked in, the table runner came to our table and asked if we wanted sparkling or still water?  This was not out of the ordinary, but when the bill came, I was surprised to see I was charged $9 per bottle of water!  There is nothing online or on their physical menus that warns you that there is a charge for water.

I came to this restaurant because I saw videos online that they did table side Cacio e  Pepe in a cheese wheel.  I was super excited about this in anticipation for weeks.  The food here does not disappoint.  My girlfriend and I had the Carciofi salad, Casoncelli pasta, and the Cacio e Pepe (of course).  The food was delicious and popped with flavor.

The service; however, is horrible.  The restaurant had one waiter and a few table runners.  We only saw our waiter when he took our order and when he did the table side Cacio e Pepe.  They have two menu items prepared table side, so I am surprised they only have one waiter.  But this is also why service dragged on and on.  Also why we were basically ignored, except for the bare minimum in human interaction.

I really wanted to like this restaurant.  We went to a matinee at the Lyric Opera, so we were there early for dinner (5:30pm).  The food was good, portion sizes reasonable, and cost in line with other Italian restaurants.  But the poor service and being charged $9 for each bottle of water definitely drags their rating down.

Absolutely top of the line. Food is top notch with a chef who clearly has experience and brings great authenticity to Italian cooking. Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend.

My girlfriend and I decided to give Gioia Chicago a try and I will say it was really good! We tried then: Carciofi, Linguine, and the La Parmigiana. Every dish was amazing! I would say my Personal favorite was the Linguine as you could have the sauce at the bottom of the plate with some bread and it kept making you want more!
