Korean BBQ  in an upscale setting,  a bit pricey and not all you can eat,  but the quality fills that gap.

Really enjoyed the somewhat quieter ambiance compared to other places that have lots music blaring or very noisy ventilation. These grills have vents in the sides that suck air out without the need for anything above your head.

The cuts of meat and rice were amazing,  especially the A5 and ribeye.

It's a bit off the main west loop drag,  but it's very much worth your time to go.

We ordered the Jampong Mussels, Chef’s Meat Sampler, Doeng Jang Jjgae, and Banchan.. everything tasted good. I mean it tasted as Korean food should, the meat was buttery soft and while I thought it odd to have to order banchan separately… it is unlimited, so there is that. The Jampong Mussels tasted good, but it wasn’t Jampong soup really, it was more Kimchee Jjgae broth with pork (so if you are pescatarian you might want to ask if they can omit or it may not work for you).

The cocktails were lovely though (as many people commented… ) I had a Matcha Sour,  I believe it was called, so good if you like sweet cocktails and the expresso martini was fantastic.

In terms of the ambiance, it’s a nice moody sort of interior. It is dark at night, but because it is a corner restaurant it was nice to see all the night lights come through the windows. All adds to the vibe.

All in all would I recommend? If you want to have a Korean experience, but in an elevated atmosphere then yes. The food is good, but was it phenomenal? No… it wasn’t like a Benu (from SF) experience, but could be a nice date night, special occasion, or somewhere you would bring a special guest… that maybe isn’t Korean?

Honestly I think the bad reviews were from fellow Koreans, but like I said it’s very good food, just not anything new or quantity wise satisfying for the natives 🤣

Was super impressed by perilla fare! My fiance and I checked out this place. We actually meant to try the steakhouse but made reservations at the fare instead. We were a little disappointed at first that we made that mistake HOWEVER, I am actually so happy about it. It was probably one of our fave and the best Korean BBQ we have had. The meats were so tender and tasty! They staff was so attentive and informative. I believe our server was onyx? She was one of the best waitresses e have had in Chicago.. go see her and take her recommendations for food. We will def be back !

Today was one for the books—my mother’s birthday, and I wanted to treat her to something special. I initially had us booked at @perillasteak after hearing rave reviews and being lured by its prime location in the heart of the city. But, thanks to the usual political hoopla in Chicago, they called and moved our reservation to their sister spot, @perillafare. I’ll admit, I was a tad bummed and uncertain about what we were walking into, but we set out on our culinary adventure nonetheless.

2 A5 Wagyu Chobap $28.00 (Gifted) – We had our eyes on the Chobap but decided to pass. To our surprise, our waiter brought it out on the house. I would've ordered two more if I wasn't already swimming in food—SO GOOD! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

1 Korean Fried Chicken $18.00 – Not bad, but we could’ve skipped it. Tried the Buffalo flavor—not too spicy with a slight kick. Yum yum 👌🏾⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We loved this place mostly because of the people. Everyone was super attentive and kind. Food we loved the pork collar and all the greens we got. Broccoli was spicy and we were all in tears. Scallops were delicious. For short rib half the group liked the marinated and half liked the unmarinated. My personal favorite was the beef fried rice. Thank you

Perilla Fare

Vår erfarenhet var blandad. Vi skulle gå tillbaka bara för att få betor tartar och ångad fläsk dumplings igen. Båda var utsökta. Min vän gillade riskakan royale men jag gillade inte konsistensen. Ingen av oss gillade soondubu. Den var för kryddig utan mycket smak. 

De tjänster var bra, och de lägger till ett kök personal support tips som är valfritt och var bra för oss. 

Dricksberäkningen för servern, som tillhandahålls på maskinen om du använder ett kreditkort, baseras dock på den totala kontrollen som inkluderar moms och kökspersonalens supportdricks. Det verkar överdrivet.

Den yttre byggnaden var lite skrämmande men insidan var mycket trevligt. Maten var utmärkt och mättande men servicen var otroligt långsam för en så dyr restaurang. Vår servitris var mycket kunnig och hjälpsam.

Vi gick in i stället utan reservation och de enda tillgängliga platserna var i baren med en (kortare) dedikerad meny. Inga problem för oss! 
Servitrisen i baren var mycket trevligt och som vi berättade för henne vi hade kört maraton på morgonen, påskyndade hon vår beställning. 
Burgaren var utsökt.

Gick till steakhouse och älskade det så vi var tvungna att prova Perilla Fare. Det är mycket mer vardagligt men kvaliteten och smaken på maten är fortfarande hög. Men att ha någon som lagar mat åt dig på steakhouse gör det till den enkla favoriten. 

Den koreanska melonsalladen är en av de bästa sallader jag någonsin ätit! Bulgogin är utsökt men storleken och tjockleken på riskakorna överväldigade mängden kött. Riskakor måste vara mycket mindre. Kycklingvingarna var smakrika och krispiga. Honungssmörspotatisen var en av mina favoriter. Antydan av citron på den krispiga potatisen förvandlar verkligen rätten. 

Till vårt protein åt vi LA galbi, bringa och räkor. LA Galbi är bra men inte riktigt värt det eftersom du måste kämpa genom benen för lite kött. Bringan var stor, lagade snabbt och var mör. Räkorna var färska men hade inte så mycket smak. Det stekta riset lämnade mycket övrigt att önska vad gäller smak men såserna och alla inlagda grönsaker hjälpte.

Perilla är ett bra komplement till Chicago matscenen! De har fantastiska moderna rätter som honungsmörfingerade potatisar, wagyu nötkötttartare och deras ostiga rosenkål. Allt super läckert, men det som stod ut för mig var kvaliteten på köttet som de serverade för grillning av bordsidan. Jag har inte sett en plats servera denna typ av kvalitetskött någonstans i Chicago förutom förorterna. Du kommer att få gynnsamma stycken av kött att grilla och äta med banchanserna! Jag märkte också att servrarna var mycket kunniga och hjälpsamma under min matupplevelse! Gå kolla denna plats för en minnesvärd koreansk måltid i Chicago!

I Chicago är jag säker på att en koreansk restaurang aldrig har gjort det på din lista över restauranger att prova, trots mängden av stora matställen. Rädsla inte, 2019 har gjort Chicago en pärla i form av ett koreanskt amerikansk matställen. Du kanske känner att du tittar på vinlistan / cocktaillistan och glömmer helt att vara på en koreansk restaurang. Tveka inte att be din server om en rekommendation!

När jag besökte PERILLA var jag nöjd med hur fantastisk och smakfull maten var. Personalen var mycket exceptionell när man faktiskt kände på menyn och vilken mat som kompletterar med vilka drycker. Jag kommer definitivt att besöka igen mycket snart.

Jag har inte besökt denna restaurang två gånger och älskar absolut mat, atmosfär och service. De specifika rätter jag skulle rekommendera (alla faktiskt) är den koreanska stekt kycklingen, Stir - Fried Glass Noodles, Blistered Shishito Peppers och LA Galbi från grillen. Dryckerna är unika så be om rekommendationer från din server. Att ha köttet tillagat vid ditt bord är en utmärkt upplevelse och något annat än din vanliga middag ute. Maten har lite krydda som är en fin balans mellan värme och smak. Platsen är trevlig avslappnad och inte pretentiös alls. Jag kommer ofta att återvända och rekommendera det till den som söker en plats i Chicago för middag.

Det här är inte en annan koreansk fusion eller en KBBQ-restaurang under genomsnittet. Det är helt enkelt bara bra koreansk mat.

Jag tog min familj (alla koreanska) hit och vi kände oss alla hemma. Jag uppskattade hur tillmötesgående personalen var med två hungriga barn också.

Även om vi alla redan var bekanta med de mindre rätterna (banchan) som vanligtvis serveras på koreanska restauranger, var jag mycket imponerad av hur vår server förklarade exakt vad varje liten skål var. Det har jag aldrig upplevt tidigare på en koreansk restaurang och jag kände att det var en fin touch.

Skaldjurspannkakan var utsökt.
Fläskklumparna kokades perfekt - krispiga och gyllene på utsidan och saftiga varma på insidan.
De sauterade rosenkålarna var en bra balans mellan de viktigaste kötträtter som beställts nedan.

Huvudrätter:
Den marinerade primära korta revbenen var smakfull och tillfredsställande.
Det icke marinerade främre revbenet var min favorit.
Sojabönagryta var precis som min mamma skulle göra det.

Jag dricker vanligtvis soju med icke-smaksatt mat med koreansk mat men vår server rekommenderade att para vår måltid med plommonsmaken och jag har aldrig tittat tillbaka. Beställ det.

Detta var min första gång med koreansk grillfest och det var den bästa upplevelsen! Restaurangen var vacker inuti & maten var bortom fantastisk. Jag bor utanför staden och jag kommer att åka tillbaka igen bara för att äta middag här!
