I had a wonderful birthday meal here. Unlike most high-end Japanese restaurants that focus on sushi, this place offers a diverse range of Japanese dishes, each one delicious in its own way. The thoughtfully curated course made for a memorable experience, and I’d definitely love to return.

Hirohisa has been on my list for quite a while for their famous uni don. I finally got a chance to try it and it was definitely worth the time and money I spent. A large bowl of rice was fully covered with sweet Hokkaido Uni, there's nothing that I can complain about. I also get a few bits from my friend's order which is Kaisen Chirashi. All the fish meat is very well prepared.

The quality of ingredients were spectacular compared to restaurants of similar price points. But I feel like the plating could be prettier for a high end kaiseki meal. My favorite dishes were the white miso seafood stew and the sashimi dishes. Some of the other dishes could’ve used a tad bit more flavorful, it was a bit on the blander side. Ingredients were not notch and super fresh though. Service was also very on point.

We enjoyed our omakase dinner here. $190 per person. All the dishes were amazing, beautifully presented! My only complaint was the waiter… he didn’t do anything wrong but we had a very hard time hearing what he said, after I addressed the issue and kindly asked him to speak up a little, the situation did not improve. The whole time we had no idea what he was trying to tell us the idea and story of each dish…

I also think there’s too many “chefs” back there doing the preparation. But nobody talks to the customers except the waiter (that I couldn’t hear what he was trying to say). When I dined at other omakase restaurants, the chefs always took time to make conversation with the guests. But maybe it’s just different concepts here.

I very much enjoy the beautiful and tasteful tableware here! Whoever arranges the presentation - did a perfect job!

Have been wanting to come here for lunch for years, as I first eyed on their Uni Don, the lunch special in this omakases-for-dinner-only place. Upon arrival, the external door is black and the name label is very small. The kinda minimalist feeling you get from a typical Japanese place (like Muji etc).

They opened the door at 12 pm sharp for lunch, and when entered, the evasive dashi aroma greeted me and my fellow friend. There are only 4 tables and some bar seats: no wonder why the reservations are so limited. The open kitchen is just beside the bar, and you get to watch all the preparations take place.

We ordered the Special fish of the day (got as appetizer) and two Uni Don and a Chawanmushi.

The special fish of the day, which name I unfortunately cannot recall, is grilled to perfection. The skin is crispy, and the inside is layered and tender like a cod. I highly suspect it is a sablefish but don’t quote me. The fish was pre-marinated with fermented substance before and was paired with miso for dipping. The fried potatoy ball tasted good too.

The Uni Don came as a set with a savory egg tofu, pickled vegetables, and miso soup.

Miso soup is just miso soup, nothing really special.

They surprised me with the tofu. The egg tofu, when bitten, bursted and melt in the my mouth. It is one of the closest things I had to maybe a solid savory cloud. Interesting it left a lingering taste of almond, despite its savory gravy.

Pickled vegetables has sea grapes and the texture tastes like roe. They are salty and offsets some of the heaviness of the uni.

For the Don, there is so much uni, I cannot believe that I am saying this, but the first bite made my brain fat-frozen for 2 seconds. The Hokkaido uni, varied in colors, tasted uniformly sweet and unami - absolutely no bitterness or fishness. I know this place didn’t skimp on ingredients or preparation. The uni are perfectly aligned on top of the unseasoned chewy sushi rice, with an extra layering of perilla leaves, which took on a surprisingly cumin-like flavor.

The Chawanmushi is a savory jelly custard, but with warmth. Good to pair with the cold Uni Don for some sensational contrast.

When I asked for the check, they offered a cup of soybean tea to each person. I guess this is supposed to help counterbalance the richness of the uni. For the price and the portion, I wouldn’t find a better deal for Uni Don anywhere else in the near future.

Delarna var ganska små - - kanske vi betalade $ 5 / bite. Glad att jag gick, måste spara för en avkastning om några år. Platsen är också mycket liten - - inte riktigt någon atmosfär. Och det var ganska tomt på veckoslutet vi åkte.

Jag inser inte att det var en Michelin-stjärna restaurang tills jag gick in i restaurangen och såg Michelin-guiden som sitter i ingången. Kom precis tillbaka från middagen på Hirohisa och det var en av de bästa japanska restauranger vi har varit på i NYC. Vi gjorde 7 - rätters omakase och varje maträtt var utsökt. De var varje mycket väl balanserad i smak och vackra presentation. Mängden mat verkade litet men i slutändan av maträtten min man jag var både uppstoppade. Servicen var i toppklass och det var kul att sitta i baren på fågelskådning kockar i arbetet. Mycket välförtjänt av 1 Michelinstjärna. The tofu med uni var utmärkt. Den anka och kyckling var båda bra. Massor av små plattor. Den någon sashimi var utsökt liksom väl. Den skull collection är utmärkt. Men allt är dyr.

Jag har ätit i flera Michelin-stjärnor japanska restauranger över hela världen men jag kan verkligen inte förstå förträfflighet Hirohisa. Trevlig personal, god mat men det är allt. Jag har smakat mycket bättre dom sushi för en mycket mer rimligt pris. Mssg till Michelin : där var/är din tänka på; en gång igen ... Slutsats : Soho har så mycket mer att erbjuda än detta.

Att passera den dörren av första försök, vi var glada att äntligen hitta den entré. Elegant, elegant, enkel. Tyvärr två sittningar av disken var tagna, den är alltid ett nöje att betrakta duktiga kockarna gör sitt saker.

Maten utmärkt - pyttesmå små mouthfulls av saker vi bara har hört talas om men aldrig kommit en chans att smaka på den här

är inte en sushirestaurang, trots att vi fick lite sashimi i omakase meny.

Kocken Hiro är en perfektionist och även en kreativ genialitet. Varje måltid jag har här gör mig att känna bra inuti. Alla som jag ta med till den här restaurangen är alltid positivt överraskad och blir en vanlig. Det är fortfarande mycket ett dold skatt.
