We decided to stay at the Auberge de la Tour for 2 nights to celebrate my wife's birthday, also to break our long journey back to the UK.
This proved to be a great decision. All the staff went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and the level of service is exceptional.
Our room was comfortable, quiet and spotless and the hotel also has super-fast broadband which made connecting with my business easy.
The best is however the really excellent restaurant and menu. We had a memorable, beautifully prepared and presented supper aided by a lovely sommelier and super service. All in all a great experience and we shall certainly come back to this well hidden gem in a lovely rural region of Cantal.

Went here for family birthday dinner celebration, we all had the tasting menu which was superb. Staff were very friendly and helpful, Nice atmosphere, relaxed and not too stuffy, would recommend to any foodie 🙂

We visited for lunch a couple of days ago. A great experience. The food is excellent and very creative. A true feast for the pallette. Impressive wine list supported by the fine Sommelier. Chef and waiters very professional yet friendly. Overall highly recommended and a sure stop next time we're in the area.

Somewhat  surprised at the sparseness of the room that certainly did not match other 5 star hotels that we have stayed at . Comfortable furniture not available but the bed was perfect and other appointments to the room including the bathroom and toilet were surprisingly sparse.(we are greatly surprised by toilets that open directly onto an occupied space and completely lack even a rudimentary air extractor system )However ,some qualification may be needed; as this was primarily a handicapped accessible room.
The fact remains that those confined to a wheelchair are entitled to significant luxury given the classification and the price.
The restaurant was justifiably a Michelin one star Restarant and service superb.

Marcoles is back of beyond but Auberge de la Tour completely fulfills Michelin's standard for a restaurant with rooms worth a detour.

Comfortable-plus, peaceful accommodation in an imaginatively decorated bedroom. Kettle, leaf  tea, ground coffee and caffetiere provided atop a small fridge.  Modern bathroom with luxe toiletries.

Ample private parking behind with Tesla Destination Chargers gratis.

Beautifully appointed dining space undergoing an acoustic upgrade to lower the volume from chatterbox diners.

Sparkling service from the sommelier who took notes on my favourite cocktail (Le Boulevardier) and guided us through the selection of local wines, ranging from bargain bottles to some rather lofty big names. We went  a Puy de Dôme local red.

We elected for the seven service menu and were delighted. Many chefs talk the terroir talk but Renaud Darmanin delivers. Each item fresh, inventive and sang of the autumn in the Cantal region, many created from the auberge's own garden . All courses exceptional in presentation, aroma, texture and flavour.  Too many fine details to elaborate.
