I booked this restaurant a month before the arrival and had high expectations. The service from our waiter was exceptional. He was extremely patient and knowledgeable about the food. The restaurant has a nice overall atmosphere. However, given the price and expectations, the food was somewhat mediocre compared to similar steakhouses I have had before. Specifically, the steak could be more flavorful. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for service and atmosphere rather than food (especially the steak) itself.

I had high expectations coming into Asador Bastian, given its ranking as the 14th best steakhouse in the world, and overall, it delivered a great experience. The food was excellent—flavors were spot on, and the quality was undeniable. My steak, while flavorful, was slightly tougher than expected, which is why I’d rate it an 8.5/10.

Service was generally good, though a bit inconsistent. My first bartender wasn’t as attentive as I would have liked, but the second more than made up for it—easily a 12/10 in terms of attentiveness and hospitality.

At $250 for one person, it’s a premium experience, so I’m being a bit critical. That said, I’d absolutely come back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a top-tier steakhouse.

Dining at Asador Bastian was an unforgettable experience. Tucked inside a beautifully restored 1880s townhouse in Chicago’s River North, the atmosphere felt intimate yet sophisticated. From the moment I walked in, the service was warm and attentive, setting the tone for an incredible meal.

The steak—especially the Txuleton—was nothing short of perfection. Richly marbled and roasted over coals, it had a depth of flavor that was both bold and refined. The bone marrow potato purée was an indulgent side that I can only describe as mind-blowing. Every bite was a perfect balance of texture and richness.

The drink menu was just as impressive. The signature cocktails were well-crafted, and the wine list, focused on Spanish varietals, paired beautifully with the meal. It was clear that every detail was carefully considered.

Asador Bastian isn’t just a steakhouse; it’s an experience. The combination of exceptional food, impeccable service, and a cozy yet elegant setting makes it one of the best meals I’ve had. If you appreciate top-tier steak and a thoughtfully curated dining experience, this place is absolutely worth visiting.

The service is top notch. Our waiter made the experience personalized and was knowledgeable. You do have to choose your entire meal at once and I felt a little rushed having been our first time. When I go back I would skip the appetizers and even most of the sides (except the bone marrow potato puree-that was excellent) and order a couple entrees. We ended up splitting the Blackhawk F1 Japanese Waygu and Black Angus steak and we really could have each gotten our own or added a seafood over the apps and sides. The atmosphere is romantic and an exclusive vibe but a little on top of each other (not intentional but can easily to the table next door close).  The wine list felt limited so we stuck with cocktails which were amazing.

We dined here to celebrate a birthday and were overall disappointed. We most enjoyed the scallop appetizer and apple walnut salad. We would not recommend either potato dish. The steak was average and disappointing for the price ($200+ total). We tried two desserts and the swan was good; the cheesecake was phenomenal.

The restaurant is beautiful and it was a nice date, but we do not plan to return. I was also a bit taken aback at the server’s reaction when I asked for a mocktail - he seemed annoyed.

Lätt den bästa steakhouse erfarenhet jag någonsin haft, än mindre en övergripande restaurang. Blandar vad man kan förvänta sig av en steakhouse upplevelse med Service / mat som du också får på Michelin stjärnmärkta restauranger. Hade en fantastisk måltid här i slutet av augusti innan Oasis show. De hade en speciell avsmakningsmeny på gång så vi fick inte hela menyupplevelsen, men vad vi hade var också fantastiskt. Hade den bästa martini i mitt liv, älskade dock inte det lilla glaset! Servicen var uppmärksam och hjälpsam. Matkvalitet och smak var 5-stjärnigt. Kan inte rekommendera högt nog för dem som har turen att säkra en bokning.

En restaurang, Basque - inspirerad Asador Bastian, utsågs till "Bästa nya restaurang" 2023 och rankades som nr 13 steakhouse i världen 2025 av Londons Upper Cut Media House. Beläget på 214 West Erie Street, i ett restaurerat 1883 radhus, på North Wells Street, i River North grannskapet, är det den senaste skapelsen av den berömda kocken Doug Psaltis, som har en intim känsla och tilltalar kött som är helt skild från alla andra steakhouse i Chicago. Restaurangens inredning, belysning, kakel och klädsel bidrar bara till den fantastiska atmosfären. Med talgstekt potatis och lokal sparris med svart tryffel, rökt ost och citron. Till dessert fick en stor skiva av Golden choklad hasselnötskaka mig att gå ut genom dörren med ett stort leende på läpparna.

Första gången gäst! Jag blev helt tagen av bartendern Nikita. Han är stolt över att göra drinkar. Han strävar efter att försäkra varje gäst lämnar lycklig. Jag satt i vördnad medan jag såg honom göra hjärtan och små djur av apelsinpiller för att garnera drinkarna. Han gjorde det så passionerat att man kunde se på hans ansiktsuttryck att han verkligen älskar sitt jobb. Det berörde mig verkligen att se någon i branschen, så passionerad och stolt över sitt yrke. Det var den perfekta stormen - hans rena passion, hans drivkraft att behaga gästerna, smaken av cocktails, tillsammans med den faktiska presentationen av cocktails, var på toppnivå. Han var så personlig och så professionell. Han strävar verkligen och är stolt över allt han gör. Jag äter på många fina restauranger i hela landet, och han lämnade mig i vördnad... 
Fullständig AWE. Engagemanget, passionen, kundservicen, professionalismen - det var helt enkelt oöverträffad. Det finns bra bartenders, men så finns det Nikita... han är på en helt annan nivå, som bara skulle beskrivas som toppnivå.

Första besöket och middag för att fira en födelsedag. Mörk svagt upplyst spansk restaurang med bord tätt intill varandra. Servrar är dock uppmärksamma och gör upplevelsen unik. Vår server Yousef var top notch. Han förhöjde verkligen kvällen. Maten och dryckerna toppade det. Goda drinkar. Bra vinlista och sommelier. Maten var unik och utsökt. Vissa objekt är små men tillfredsställande. Wagyu var utmärkt. Öm smakrik och saftig. Passar perfekt till vårt vin. Underbar kväll som firar födelsedag. Dyrt men värt det. Upptäckte även där ett mysigt bås nere.

Som någon som älskar köket i Baskien, hade jag höga förväntningar på Asador Bastian, men tyvärr missade det märket. Maten var helt okej – inte i närheten av smakerna du hittar på ens en enkel bodega i San Sebastián eller Bilbao. För en restaurang som ville fånga den baskiska andan var vinutbudet också en besvikelse; jag hoppades att se mer lokala alternativ som Txakoli som skulle komplettera rätterna. 

Servicen kunde vara mer uppmärksam, eftersom det kändes lite bristande för prispunkten. Sammantaget var det för dyrt för vad du får. Jag skulle inte återvända, särskilt när autentiska baskiska smaker är vad du är ute efter.

Vill inte prata med maten men kommer att prata med deras dåliga kundservice och tvivelaktiga affärsmetoder. För ungefär sex månader sedan hade vi en reservation för fem för att kolla in det här stället. Tyvärr, dagen innan vår bokning ett av paret i vårt parti hade en baby en månad för tidigt och som ett resultat kunde inte delta (barnet var också på NICU under denna tid). Jag ringde restaurangen förklara situationen och frågade om det fanns något de kunde göra med vår insättning på grund av omständigheterna, och de gick med på att återbetala hela beloppet (ursprungligen erbjöd de sig att ändra datumet för vår bokning men med tanke på osäkerheten i situationen vi inte ville boka något vid den tidpunkten). Efter över en vecka fanns det inga tecken på återbetalning, så jag ringde tillbaka och förklarade situationen igen. Jag försäkrades att vi skulle få pengarna tillbaka. Det var vi inte. Det är en sak att ha en policy och hålla sig till den (medan frustrerande med tanke på situationen är det vad vi kommit överens om) , men det är en annan sak att lova en kund en återbetalning (två gånger) och aldrig fullfölja. 

Spola framåt sex månader. Nämnda par gifte sig nyligen och i bröllopspresent köpte gruppen ett presentkort för 300 dollar för att de äntligen skulle få en chans att prova det här stället. När paret gick för att göra en bokning fick de veta att de fortfarande var tvungna att lägga en $ 90 deposition som skulle tillämpas på deras räkning och de kunde inte använda presentkortet för detta. Absolut INGENTING på deras hemsida nämner detta när du köper ett presentkort. Vem vill ge en gåva som kräver att mottagaren betalar nästan $ 100 av sina egna pengar för att njuta av det? Hemsk kundservice och affärsmetoder. Det finns gott om fantastiska stekhus i Chicago - jag skulle rekommendera att spendera dina pengar någon annanstans.

Utmärkt Steakhouse. Annorlunda än din traditionella amerikanska steakhouse men servicen är stor och maten är ännu bättre. Biffarna kan vara restaurangens huvudattraktion men Sardinerna i grön salsa, Arroz cremoso och karabineros är på en annan nivå. Även cocktails och vin urval är fantastiska.

Detta är en speciell restaurang - en av ett slag och unik i Chicago. det ligger i ett vackert radhus i River North grannskapet och modelleras efter de stora asador restauranger i Spanien. Chicago har många enastående steakhouses men Asador Bastion står ensam på grund av sitt engagemang för att troget replikera den unika matupplevelsen hos den klassiska spanska asadoren. Restaurangen hämtar sitt kött men från hantverksranchägare i Spanien, USA och Nya Zeeland. Biffarna, skaldjuren och alla tillhörande rätter är något av det bästa jag någonsin ätit någonstans, någonsin. Atmosfären är sofistikerad med ett energiskt surr men inte så högt att det stör samtalet. Servicen är älskvärd och professionell. Dyrt men värt det.

Fantastisk mat, och fantastisk service! Stämningen var livlig, men ändå något pittoresk. David, vår server beskrev menyn i detalj och svarade på alla frågor och checkade in på oss genom våra 3 kurser. Sommelieren gjorde ett perfekt jobb med att matcha våra smakpreferenser med ett spanskt vin, hade vi aldrig hört talas om. Under hela kvällen toppades våra glas regelbundet. Fantastisk upplevelse.
